Hi Grumpy Yes it is the original rubber door liner....and I now find that new ones are available - for £14 each.... so it is not sensible to try and save the original after all.

When I got the old door out of the garage loft, there was a crumpled ball of ribbed rubber matting that came from the inside. This was the original door lining material which, I believe, is now unavailable....so I have been straightening, flattening and re-assembling it.

The spare door has some rust along the bottom edge and so I have started to cut sections out. I have looked at replacement door skins or cutting a section off a later (cheaper) door skin but I have decided that I will keep as much original as possible and just patch repair.

As per this post, I have got a spare passenger door so decided that it should also be re-sprayed when the car is done. I have been rubbing it down .....and found some metalflake fuscia! Obviously I had swapped doors when I went down to bare metal and sprayed the metalflake turquoise back in 1972.

Well I have been carrying on and the initial rubbing down is now complete. It is fascinating to see the variety of colours where the hood fastening was removed. Powder Blue was the original colour, around it was the metalflake turquoise, flat BRG and on top the metallic BRG.

Hi Strikey As this is the last time that I will be doing a full re-spray prep, it is not worth investing in an electric one....and anyway it gives me frequent rests!

I have now got round to the other side of my "Frog".....It takes a long time because my air compressor is too small to feed the DA sander....I have to build up the pressure, quickly sand a small area.....then wait until the pressure builds up again! Still, I have also started to build up some low spots with spray filler.

It's good to see another Alfa on here, particularly a 164 ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png) Well done on saving your 164. The pictures bought back many memories of my 164/Sprint 6C saga. I dismantled a rusty V6 164 and re used the running gear. I tried to re-use the instrument panel but the complex electrics beat me! I followed your build thread on alfaowner.com years ago. Small world! Is the car still around somewhere, I haven't seen it or heard about it for some time? It went back and forth via E Bay and has finally ended up at Luden Automotive where they plan to refurbish it ...sometime. They posted a short "You tube" video of the engine being started some time ago. Sorry for thread diversion....

What's the story with the axleboxes on that one then Phil, in service or preservation "keep it going" mod or is it an early chassis? Hi PHUQ We bought the wagon with those axleboxes/axles. It is a theory that they were under an iron ore "Tippler" body which needed a heavier duty axle before it was rebodied with a 16T mineral body. There was a lot of chopping and changing in the wagon world!

I see they're on about running the windcutter rake regularly - let's hope they don't ask you to go back over the lot and give them an "authentic in-service patina!" Well the rake is due out at the end of the month (Aug 31st/ Sept 1st) for three runs behind a diesel and two behind steam each day, from Loughborough to Swithland. This is to train guards on freight working and we are to ride in a spare brake van. Next year we are hoping for a "Windcutter Weekend" where we hope to have two rakes running, and then join them, to have about a 30 vehicle "Lengthy train".

A bit more prepping and painting has seen the East side of #19 looking a bit smarter whilst it is awaiting its move to Quorn. White stripes and end door still to be painted.

I've always loved the Stradale shape. The Busso V6 is gorgeous to look at....and has the sound to back up the power. Looking forward to seeing this project progress. I also respect the NZ approach to getting things done!
