Well the gearbox works! I did a bit of tidying up of the wiring so that I have a working ignition switch on the dashboard. Then I started the car whilst it was still up at the back, put it into "D" and the wheels went round. Put it into "R" and they went round the other way. Then I got it down on the floor and worked it out of its space, got the front wings down and onto the car, put the bonnet on...... And have left it till tomorrow as it is getting too late for loud cars!

Be waiting for the replacement! Hi George, You may recall that I had an SLK 350, it was an unexpected delight to waft about in! Unfortunately I had a coming together with a Golf and the SLK was written off as an uneconomic repair. With the insurance money I have bought another SLK which is a year younger and many fewer miles. Hopefully Vulgalour, I will not need to spend garage time on it....

Hi Vulgalour Yes it is a bit strange, but I did say right at the start it was a "garage candy" project and now it is virtually complete in all the major parts, I feel it is the right time for it to go.....but I still hope to drive it out of the garage tomorrow! Also I have found the desire to do "stuff" in the garage has got less and less (it's probably an age thing!)

I was right! It was poor connections as I tried again and the starter motor worked correctly. I put it in the car and it still worked. Then I ran the fuel pump, connected the ignition wire and churned the starter...cough,,cough brmmmm, cough...switch off, check pipes, running on 8 ish. Tried again, cough BRMMMM, Whap!, Whap! switch off...check the pipes running on at least 10!
Next is to start it in the air and put it into "D" Then put it back on the ground, start it and put it into "D" and hope the brakes work!

Well I tried to start it yesterday and the starter just went "Clunk!". I tried with another battery and that was no better so I took the starter motor off and tried testing it with jump leads from another car .... and that didn't even "clunk!" So I am a bit stuck.....I think the starter is actually ok but I cannot get a good connection to a good battery!

Many years ago I had a 2600cc straight six Alfa and it had a damaged piston. It was cheaper to get a set of six Jag "D" type pistons(I think) (and mill valve head flats on the dome, which also gave higher compression. The skirts were cut off at the lower oil control ring as well) than one Alfa piston! We also had to put different small end bushes in the con rods.

Meanwhile, at the back of the car, the battery is now in its box and connected to Earth and the cut-out switch. It even all fits behind the alloy sheet!

I started racing in 1973 and this was taken at the Easter meeting 1974. It was quite a well attended meet (so there was a useful "Pit Gate money" cash return!)

Nice work! Glad that you are still cracking on with this. It does all get a Lot tighter as more systems get put in though.....

As I have been getting the car ready for collection I have been doing several little jobs which I had accumulated! The rear wings have been better aligned and secured, the XJ-S lighting switch has been modified and now has a place in the dashboard. There is a bit of wiring loom for the water temp sensor and electric radiator fan, the excess wiring between the two coils has been cut out and the ends soldered. there is a general tidy up and it is looking more of a car....Pics to follow.

Thanks again to all who have watched and /or commented. I am obviously sad in a way that the BGT has not been finished but, in reality, all the major work has been done and the thinking about problems and generating solutions is what I really enjoy and that is pretty much done now. Also I really want another car and it had to be one out if another comes in!

On the bridge front, the old steel bridge 341 has been removed and I believe they are doing brickwork on the abutments before taking the new concrete bridge to the railway line. The lattice girders have been refurbished and are looking very good.

Sad to see this thread end, but the right decision if you have no time/inclination for it. As you have built and sold some one off motors, how do you set about valuing them? Might need to sell the Audi on when finished, but not a clue what it is worth. It is always difficult to put a value on a one - off. You can put it up high and then work down if there is no interest, or set a min that you will accept and hope an auction has two or more keen buyers. Ultimately it is only worth what somebody will pay....You will know how much you have spent and how much time you have put in.....but of course your time is free?

Well it went onto a well known auction site at 14 38pm with a start price and a higher "Buy it Now".... and sold at 14 55pm!...

I am finding less and less time for my "Garage Candy" MBG GT V12 and I need the space, so, reluctantly, I am putting it up for sale. It is obviously incomplete but the engine runs, the brakes work etc. Their are lots of useful parts, carbs, Narrowed Jag IRS with LSD, alloy wheels tyres etc so even if broken up it would generate quite a lot of cash. First offer over £2500 secures PM for more details. And I would like to thank ALL on here who have been reading this thread and commenting for their support.

Back on the Steam Heat Van, I was able to buy some perspex and get it cut to size ( even though I had to guess the corner radius as I only sized the window frame with a handy piece of string!) Fortunately they fit and are secured used silicon sealant.
