Thanks for all the replies guys, I considered a couple of old cars but the field is used to graze sheep usually and I'm not sure they'd be too pleased if it's fully torn up. Instead I'm going to buy a couple of old mini quad bikes and we'll use those for the racing!
Light enough that it won't do too much damage to the grass and at 50cc, not fast enough to do any real damage if they're crashed.

Haha, I did think about this, my only concern is tearing it up too badly. We can use the field but it's rented by a farmer so wouldn't want to turn it into a mud track! I've got two mini motos, I'm thinking of setting up a kind of rally-cross event using those. Just concerned they'll be a bit small to deal with anything other than the driveway.
Might go look up some cheap pit bikes - that'd be fun!

I'm actually taking my land rover up there, so that's not a bad shout. I think the field's big enough that they'd have a hard time crashing it into something!
famous last words!
I've not been able to find anyone that rents that kind of thing out. We'll be in the Lake District, near Ravenglass so we're a bit out of the way.

So I'm planning a stag weekend for a friend and I'm trying to come up with cheap ideas for fun. I was thinking of ride on mower racing but as soon as I made the decision and started my search the supply seemed to completely dry up!
I've got my eye on a couple of old garden motorbikes, but I was wondering if you guys had any good ideas?
There's about 19 of us, and the accommodation is quite expensive, but we've got a field and permission from the owner to use it, so it seemed a lot cheaper to get a couple of motorised vehicles of some kind and have a tournament than the more traditional stag activities. I was quoted £900 for us all to go paintballing for a morning!

I was essentially homeless for that period which is not something to be proud of. I have to say though, it's not something to be ashamed of either. It's just something, a situation any of us could find ourselves in. Being homeless puts you in serious danger, and leaves you seriously exposed, so it's far better to swallow your pride and ask for any help available than to put yourself in a potentially life threatening situation.

No problem. I was considering driving down that way in two weeks actually for a Land Rover autojumble in Somerset, so depending on if he wants it or not I may actually be in the area with a van!

Selling this as I bought it as a replacement but the car it was going into wasn't worth the effort. It's a 1.8 194E1 engine from an e46 318. It's done 135,000 miles. I heard it running prior to buying it, it's been sat in the garage since then, so about two years. I'd like to see £220 for it, but I'm open to negotiation. I can deliver it at extra cost. If you want to pick it up I can help with loading.

I'll go a bit low-rent for this one, my old 1.6 1998 Escort estate.
I used to drive it all over the country when I was at uni, regularly drove it to Edinburgh for the weekend from London, and never had an issue with it! Was nice and quiet on the motorway, perfectly comfortable and not too bad on fuel!

I recently found a friend's old Mini by using this site; www.lostmotcertificate.co.uk/It'll come back with the garage they had the car MOT'd at. I called up and asked if they remembered it and eventually worked out it was owned by a friend of one of their mechanics. It's a long shot, but worth it for a tenner. Not sure of the legality of it, as it's not your information you're requesting, but no one's knocked on my door yet. If they do remember it and don't want to give you the number of the current owner, you could always ask them to pass yours on, which is what I did, haven't heard anything yet unfortunately.

Financial Ombudsman - might be worth giving them a call. I don't know if this would be in their remit, but they're free and will be able to at least give you some advice.
Might mean playing ball with the insurance company, but from my experience the ombudsman is pretty much the only institution these companies fear.

There's a mk1 Mini near Faversham, been sat in a shed for years, the guy won't sell it, I stopped and asked last year.
No idea what the story is, and it's sad to see it, but it's his.
Funnily enough I spoke to his wife, and asked if I could leave my number in case he changed his mind, she sarcastically said "Yeah, I'll add it to the list!".
Seems she's sick of people knocking on the door after his Mini!

What if it belonged to his wife, and she'd passed, and it was all he had left to remember their youth together?
You don't know what it means to him, and if it turns to dust then so be it, there are plenty more VW campers around.

I'd also love to see some detail photos of how you've fitted the EJ22 - got a friend's Brat on the driveway at the moment and I'm currently trying to convince him to put something bigger in!

Currently have a few people lined up, I understand this sounds like a ridiculous pipe dream, but I'm currently looking for warehouses and I'll update here as soon as I have more information.
May end up being less organised than in my original post and being more of an informal group renting a space, but either way I'll let people know!

To be fair, all I know is the garage it was last MOT'd at. They agreed to pass on my number, I don't know what other information they would have given me as I didn't ask. I'm relying on their goodwill, so I didn't want to push it or come off as a weird stalker.
I'm lucky they gave me any information - It could have been sold, the owner could have moved or the station could have told me to shove it.
But I do agree, I'm sure my local MOT garage aren't completely up to scratch on the data protection act, so it does kind of leave people exposed.
