Oooh, got a serious soft spot for Maestro's & Montego's ;D Had two maestro's that got a lot of attention and the Montego had a few bits on it too.. The Maestro had an MG 1.6 R series with a ported head, cam and lightened bottom end. It was dyno'd at 140bhp which was ok for a 1.6 2 valve engine. Accelerated well and was a total sleeper cos it didn't have any external indication of what was in there. I kept the 1.3L badges and two tone grey/gold paint scheme and put montego 2.0 saloon steelies with wheel trims on it to keep it innocent looking but the 2" drop gave the game away to the sharper eyed.. Sorry about the thread hijack but I look back on those cars fondly. I vote to drop it but your car, your choice. Good luck with it!

These things are great!! My aunt had one that she had inherited from her uncle so it was in the family from new. It's now been restored by a cousin and it's still wafting along. Great interior with leather armchairs and walnut everywhere. Transfer gear is made from chocolate though, cousin had to get a new one made as they are NLA though. Looks like a LOT of welding but get practising and get stuck in and it'll fly by..

Great work on them all sir! Should've had that Jetta off you now that I've seen the pics of it. My lad is going to need something cheap and worthy and that would have fitted the bill rightly. I'll kick myself quietly.. Maser is coming on great. Looking closer to paint by the week. Quality!!

I 'may have mentioned' to Mr Xbolx that there are not enough expletives in the world to describe the level of wrongness that a 3 cylinder TD 33 represents.... Might have been fun watching him plug weld all the snapped out spot welds on the front end tho'... ;D I did mention that it would'nt be surprising if the vibration had been at an unfortunate frequency just like the TSR2 fuel pump that I'd been reading about.. "Shortly after takeoff on XR219's second flight, vibration from a fuel pump at the resonant frequency of the human eyeball caused the pilot to throttle back one engine to avoid loss of vision" ;D ;D

Great build, lovely finish. Should do the biz out on the navs. An old mate of mine won the NI nav championship in the mid 90's in an SR Nova. Cracking little cars. Been thinking of getting out there myself but only got my daughter's MG ZR as a possible chariot. Currently building a 1600 K on a 1400 block with ported head and VVC exhaust cams for the craic...

Really good to see this thing being rescued as I remember it well in the run up to the '87 COI as everybody was looking for group A cars after group B got canned. McHale's only other option within the opel stable as he was with DOTI was going to be the FWD Kadett and that just wasn't going to happen.. ;D. He ended up in a 3 door cossie like everyone else after a year or two in an M3.
Best of luck with the resto!

Looking tidy. Must remember to drop by your desk next week and 'congratulate' you on your progress... :-) (Not that I got a lot further with the 155 of course - Feck.)

Ye gods Mr B!! That Maser looks pretty good in parts so it should be a stonking car once it's done. Also read the entire thread and I'm pretty damn impressed at the amount of tat that has been saved. Makes my Alfa efforts look pretty amateur See ya next week ;D
