oh I see. that bar underneath was seen at some angles. i'm guessing it was for towing the car during filming. not very descreet, kids don't notice though... The access panels are the ones in the bumper just ahead of the pop-up headlights. You're right, the frame at the front was to tow the car during filming. I don't think it could really drive itself you know

There's a stack of work gone into that But a true anorak would know it's missing the access panels just in front of the headlights ebay car: film car:

Chocks away, pip pip! ;D cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200067210053#descriptionWhen I was getting a bit bored with my VW project I had a "brilliant" idea of building a lookalike 1920s tourer. Something like the Paragon Panther in this book I read when I was an impressionable child I spent many happy daydreams thinking about something based on a Sherpa chassis, solid front axle, simple formed bodyshell, 4 seat tourer, toying with a big diesel engine for an authentic red line of 4000rpm....... This ebay job has everything bad about it - the bodyshell is ugly, the details are all wrong and the wheels are hideous. And it's at least £4000 overpriced. But it's still a good idea for my daydreams ;D

Quality stuff at teh top there Slater! I still think Allegros are the ugliest cars ever made though. Don't know if it's possible in photoshop but can you make the cars wider? Makes a big difference! A prize for the first one with a subtly wider Marina ;D

I had a 1995 106 Rallye, it had a 1.3 injected engine and made 100bhp. Later 106 Rallyes had a 1.6 injected engine and made 100bhp. Guess which one was more fun? Any car that comes from the factory with such a wild cam it has a lumpy idle gets my vote ;D I guess the biggest problem with these cars is finding one that hasn't been thrashed or crashed.

It just the nature of the inline twin thats the problem, I keep thinking I should make a steel crank but its alot of work to make one from billet and alot of money on the line if you get it wrong. That's why it may be better to start from a motorbike crank that you can get machined, or machine the Fiat crankcase to accept the motorbike bearings etc

Revs can destroy a crank but bear in mind that any higher forces like more compression pressure will make it want to bend as well.
How about a motorbike crankshaft? There are a few 600cc - 800cc 2 cylinder bikes and they generally rev quite high too (compared to car engines). My old Yamaha XTZ750 is a 2 cylinder, and a similar engine was used on the TDM 850 and 900. It's water cooled but that doesn't matter for crankshafts.
The main problem with modified aircooled engines is heat, extra oil coolers can help but the main source of heat is the cylinder head so be careful to get rid of the heat from here and not just bang on the biggest oil cooler you can find.
I'm no bike expert, but the ER-5 is a 2 cylinder aircooled engine and they're cheap and plentiful. Maybe a good place to start for crank, cylinders, heads and carbs?

Seems odd my rear Hornet axle is the same as my Grasshopper one however this is the Grasshopper 2 from that it says on the box. Grasshopper 2? That's virtually the HLS spec of the Grasshopper world ;D

Hornet/Grasshopper Depending upon body (Grasshopper was solid white plastic and used the 360 motor instead of the 540 Box type, Both of which I upgrated to the Mean Machine stockker motor) the only other dirrernce between the grasshopper and the hornet was the front of the frame went to a point on the hornet and it has oil filler dampers, whereas the grass hopper just had the springs. Let me just slip into my anorak here The Grasshopper had a solid axle that was pivoted at the back of the chassis - the whole thing was like a huge trailing arm. The Hornet axle could pivot and slide so if one wheel hit a bump the other one had a chance of staying on the ground.
