Considering the hysterics and sh*t storm created by Marina lovers when Clarkson dropped a piano on one back in the day, I am quite surprised that they haven't been all over this one. It's an early TC, December 1971, and it looks restorable, the mods can be removed and the car returned to standard and a decent TC can go for very good money nowdays. The car is a good proposition for returning to standard, surely? But that would mean them having to put their money where their mouth is rather than simply sitting behind a keyboard complaining about the actions of people who have put their money where their mouth is.

Glad they've been found. Archived threads about this might give the owner some head aches in the future now tho... 😂

I think a lot of the negativity was aimed at the owner of green merc with the rest of your group taking a back seat in the court of public opinion. He basically became the public face of your group with his whiny social media posts about the police taking his car "because of air and wheels", after attempting to drive through multiple countries in a clearly unroadworthy police bait car 😂
As for fairness which was mentioned a couple of times in your initial post, unfortunately fairness doesn't come into it. The police have a job to do and they did it. Even taking the mods out of the equation you were breaking the law by being in a convoy. As silly a law as that seems to me, it's still the law of that country. It seems a little forward planning would of prevented this whole situation because you are far from the first people to get caught out by this law. As for the police leaving you dumped at the side of the road, that's normal in this sort of situation. The police are under no obligation to provide transportation to people who's car they've impounded. It's the same over here too.
At least you have have the knowledge to prevent you from ending up in this situation again in the future. It's just a shame it's cost you so much to gain this knowledge.

Would of had a cheeky bid but at £310 already it's already at more than I'd be willing to gamble on it 😆

Were horseshoes a common mod on cars back in the day or was this car built by someone with an equestrian fetish?
I love seeing long lost modified cars being discovered as it give those of us who didn't really get to experience this time a glimpse into what it might of been like. As a kid I had a uncle who had long hair, a moustache, was always wearing a white string vest with with gold necklace and his hairy chest on show. As soon as I saw this car it reminded me of him for some reason 😂

Or, not technically retro, a jag X-type? I had a 2.0d, which was slow and only did 44mpg, but i think a 2.2d 6 speed manual would be much better. Just don't go expecting a real jag - it is fairly obviously a mondeo with nice seats. I disagree with you on this one, I own a 2.2 ST TDCI Mondeo (previously owned a 2 litre TDCI lower spec version) and they have expensive common failure points like injectors, dual mass flywheel and fuel pumps. I will say that the 8 way adjustable electric recaros are probably nicer than the jag seats though! I'd vote for pug 205, they are great, easy to work on and cheap to repair. Fiesta Mk3 would also be another good choice in my opinion. You forgot to mention the "smart" charge alternator system too. It is a weak point and can be difficult to diagnose. The cheap Chinese alternators can cause issues straight out of the box so realistically the only option is an expensive genuine part. They also need a specific type of battery which is also more expensive. I run a 2.0 tdci myself. I only paid £150 for it and it's not long gone through its second mot without costing me a bean. I'm happy to weigh it in as soon as it gets an expensive issue tho.

My comment on this post got deleted all I said was “if you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime” Imagine being stuck in a s****y hostel in Germany on your birthday because of your own poor choices, and still trying to blame everyone but yourself 😂

My mum had a 106 straight diesel once. Wouldn't win any kind of race but it was crazy economical and just kept on motoring. Whether it falls into "retro" territory yet may be arguable, but personally I'd say they are pretty much there now.

Ah so the green merc only gets driven like that on a public road when there's someone with a camera around to show how cool he is, that's OK then I guess? Imo that makes it even worse. He's had time before that pic and setting off to sort out that tyre before attempting to drive through multiple countries on it yet chose not to. Non of the cars posted by skinnylew show any signs of wheels rubbing on the arches that I can see? in fact they look like they've been built so they can be driven like that without destroying the tyres.

More likely the chains are on the front because whoever put them on didn't know how to use them.
This is the second time it's been on now. It didn't sell the other week so they've put it back on with an identically bad advert. I'd imagine it's totally shafted which is why they've put such a bad description of it. Can't get the sale canceled for not describing something properly if you just don't bother describing it.

I would pull a spark plug to see if it looks wet, if its wet its flooding and getting to much fuel, then put the plug back in the lead and lay it on a good earthing point, get someone to crank the engine and see if you have a spark, that would be a good start Definitely this. Do some fault finding to see where the problem lies before buying random parts in the hope that something fixes it. Takes seconds to check if you have a spark while it's refusing to start. If it sparks you can start looking at fueling issues, if not you know you are looking at the ignition side of things.

They confiscated 120 high end cars in one sitting recently too. Their justification was that they said they believed that it was an illegal street race. Now they have a task force set up that will need to justify it's existence, I'd imagine that will become a more regular occurrence. I guess there are quite a few European rallys that make their way through Germany.

There's normally a decent selection of stuff on there if you search for classics. Not everything is through insurance either, some people seem to prefer to sell on there than on sites like eBay. I guess there's not really a lot of chance of being messed about on there like there is on ebay.

All the negative comments on the mods done to these cars ... I just looked at the pictures from the RR weekend and there seems to be a lot of the same mods there but no negative comments ..strange Probably because that would be against forum rules...

From what I can see in those photos, if vosa had pulled them this side of the channel they'd of gotten a similar treatment. People saying that this is German police trying to enforce German rules on foreign cars that are legal to drive in their mother land seems to be ignoring the fact that these cars probably ain't legal to drive in their motherland either.
If you play with feathers you have to expect to get your ass tickled.

Another great show and definitely a step up on last year (not that last year was in anyway bad). Loved the addition of the arcade games in the shell building for the Saturday night, enjoyed watching the autosole on Sunday too. Hopefully I can make it in something worthy of being in the show area next year This picture sums up one reason why I enjoyed this show so much. One minute you have a full on race car doing the autosole, then the next you have this hero hooning around it

Good luck, let us know how you get on Badly. Failed the mot yesterday on a small bit of welding, emissions and a ball joint. I think I've sorted the emissions, I've done the welding but can't find a ball joint anywhere but off the net. A local lad did say he had one he'd sell me but he's stopped replying to me. So it's currently sat with no lower arm on, and looks like it'll stay there until a ebay ball joint turns up So I'm jumping in with a mate and trying to put the last week of stress and late nights behind me. See you all there 👍

Anyone else running a little bit behind schedule? Was hoping to have this mot'ed by last Friday. Still gotta finish the sill, weld a bit of the chassis leg and inner wing. Sort a running issue and then see if it'll pass it's first mot in 2 years. Who else is pulling late ones to try and get a car ready for the weekend?
