"It's just a small minority"
"This sort of thing happens at every camping show"
this seems to be the official lines on the matter looking at the thread on ed38
Imagine how peeved you be if you drove all the way from Belgium just to have some spotty little nob and all his mates wee on your tent after stealing your center caps

I must of done 07 and 08 then, I definitely remember the polo because we were camping just up the field from it. The other stuff I mentioned happened the last time I went so must of been 08?

Was it not 09 that the polo went in the lake? I did 08 and 09 and I remember the polo going in the lake. There was also a lad windmilling around the dance tent trying to punch people as he danced, pretty sure security delt with him tho. Security also smashed some windows on a car as it tried to speed off after some sort of fuss that had gone on but I only heard about that rather than seeing it so not really sure what happened.
08 was definitely more laid back than 09 from what I remember

The E38 crew need to have a huge rethink on the way the " uk's best vw show " is run next year or people will just vote with there feet. It isn't even the best uk vw show on that weekend, never mind as a whole

The toilets don't sound like they were any different to any other year to be honest. Both times I went they were disgusting. Someone pooing in the showers seems like a common accurance each year too unfortunately

According to the thread on edition38 the security tried to stop some people who were doing wheel spins and trying to drift around the field, the mob then turned on the security. Apparently there were bottles being thrown at them too

I normally bleed mine by leaving the expansion bottle cap off and running the car until the fan kicks in. While doing that I have the heaters on full and keep squeezing the coolant hoses to try and help get any airlocks out.
not sure if that's the common way of doing it? But it's the method I was taught and always seems to work well

Yeah, because the steering arm and wheel bearing housing and lower ball joint mount are all part of the strut, rather than having a seperate 'upright' and strut like most cars, there really isn't a cheap option. As Roccoguy says, it's either a case of fitting coilover sleves to your current struts or adapting mk1/2 golf coilovers and uprights to fit. You can get some pretty low springs off the shelf though, it'll be the damper length that gets to be the issue. Mk2 golf hubs won't fit due to the ball joint size unfortunately, otherwise it would open up a lot of options for bolt on brake upgrades too Phils lowering kits are good for the price but they are very stiff and very 'crashy'. Also as Robin says its the damper that limits how low you can go with these struts and 80mm is about the limit. You can chop the springs and get a bit lower but your gonna be pretty much bottoming the dampers out. 80mm really isn't 'that' low on these cars either, 13's with low pro tyres on will still have a fair amount of arch gap going on

No other cars coilovers will bolt straight on to the front although mk1 golf rears fit fit with a little fettling (you need a couple of spacers). Mk1 golf fronts can be modified to fit but its not really a DIY job unless you are very confidant with a welder these are mine You can convert the standard struts to coilovers using those threaded bar conversion things but even with those you can only lower them so far (about 80mm) so its a bit pointless

If you have nowhere to store it buy it and stick it on ebay, sounds like you could make a nice little earner out of it

Nope, nothing different. Just seems very odd that it would start after emptying and refilling the coolant system and give the same sort of symptoms as an air lock

Defo sounds like an airlock in the system

If you are serious about doing it properly it is possible to retro fit the saab trionic management system. IMO this is the best turbo management system there is, bar none due to the protection it offers and the self mapping capabilities. More work involved but if you are careful you can get all the parts required for nothing (buy an MOT fail for £100 - £150, strip all the parts needed and scrap whats left for £100 - £150 ) and it would enable you to run injection rather than a carb/s. Obviously this would involve modding a manifold to physically fit the injectors. Lots of modded vauxhalls and volvo's running this system, esp in sweden. What saab didn't know about turbo's isn't worth knowing IMO. Plenty of OE management can be remapped. I'm using the polo G40 management on mine and having it mapped to suit my setup (1.6 16v with an eaton m45). Its a nice simple setup too There's nothing wrong with using a carb and modified ignition set up with a turbo tho. One of the lads on club polo used a R5 GTT carb and a modified dizzy using some saab dizzy parts and got just over 200bhp in his 1.4 engined polo. The same power and with a similar power curve as another lad with a highly tubed G40 turbo been wondering recently if the R5 GTT ignition setup could be retro fitted to another sort of car when boosting it. From what I can see all you would need is a trigger wheel and make the dizzy static. I have only had a quick look at the setup on my car tho so I may be over looking some thing important?

You could use what you know from the renaults and simplify the setup. You could use a R5 carb but use a non water cooled turbo (I don't think the phase 1 5 used water cooled turbo?).
You would need to address the ignition setup too so that it can retard under boost. Mappable ignition setup like megajolt would be a good route to take but would probably need mapping on a rolling road to get the best out of it

Take the tank into an open space, stand a little back and put a candle lighter near the opening. The fumes will only light the once so try and light it in a controlled way and then you know you're good to go
as already mentioned if it does light its not going to explode anyway

Wouldn't be difficult for someone with a bit of fabrication skills to mod this to fit pretty much any car. If I had the spare money I would of been all over this for my sierra, had some on a polo a couple of years back and had a lot of fun with them
£400 isn't a bad price imo, I sold my setup for a little over £500 and that was just a one pump setup

and a ratty head turner Looked so much better without the rust As a kid my mums chap had a few mk3's, got lots of fond childhood memories of going sideways in them around the same time a bloke that lived behind us had a yellow mk1 with black bonnet that he refused to sell, that was the car that really gave me the capri bug and I've wanted a mk1 ever since. That was around 24 years ago and I recently found out that the mk1 is still there. Turns out its a broadspeed bullet, I got in touch with the owner through a mate to see if he would sell it but apparently I couldn't afford it. As fair as I can find out he hasn't really touched it in a those years and its now rotten as a pear (the spare wheel that was in the boot is now sitting in the grass underneath it)
