Bookmarked too. Your Fastback is stunning and no doubt this will turn out the same way. Those stands look fantastic - any more details on them? Best of luck with the resto. If I manage to get it close to the fasty I will be satisfied. I will get details on the stands, its a really good mate that is making them. Dave

I finally had a chance to make a small start on Joannes '67 beetle resto today. After collecting and importing parts over the last year, getting Jack to make me a set of his amazing axle stands and re-roofing the garage that I will be working in it was time today to make a start. This is the last picture of the car complete and on the ground; P1120983 by route9autos.co.uk, on Flickr These are the axle stands that Jack is making and they will be incredibly usefull for the restoration. P1120984 by route9autos.co.uk, on Flickr With the wheel bolts loosened and the car up on the stands it can be moved around very easily, important as the garage isnt the biggest and Marks 69 cabrio will be getting worked on at the same time. Here is the view of the stands from underneath; P1120988 by route9autos.co.uk, on Flickr P1120990 by route9autos.co.uk, on Flickr With it up off the floor I have more space to get underneath. The stands height is adjustable and they can go highter if I need them to. The car is not rotten but the pan edges are starting to go along with the rear corners and jacking points so its time to do it properly instead of patching it up only to have to cut the patches out at a later date. I'm hoping the floor pan bolts undo without too much of a fight but unlikely; P1120992 by route9autos.co.uk, on Flickr Plans for the resto are to; Fit the new 18 guage floorpans I imported from Wolfsburg west in California. Fit the heater channels I had cut from a rust free early Beetle and imported from California. Fit the '67 only rear vallance and engine side trays that came from a rust free bug in Cali'. Do any welding that comes up (thinking front bulkhead needs work). Prep and paint, Re-trim and new engine. Might not be the fastest resto in the world but I will try and keep this thread updated as I go along. Dave.

some lush motors in here, and also, thanks for then tips lads! generally01; your first car was gorgeous! Thank you very much. Sadly it was pretty rotten as I had bought it needing work and kept it running on a student grant for four years. I sat it in the garage with the plan to restore it but when I was offered my first type 3 I rashly did this to make space; End of my first car by route9autos.co.uk, on Flickr Dave

I think the front looks wrong because the front wings look like they are widened but the rears look standard.
I like the colours, similar to some MFI furniture I had in my bedroom when growing up.

From 1949 to 1973 Glasgow was an official start line of the rally.
Last year it was brought back but this year our illustrious council leaders refused to help fund the event so it moved just outside Glasgow to Clydebank.
A lot of the yards are gone but BAE systems still build warships on the Govan and Scotstoun sites further upstream in Glasgow.

I say Glasgow but this year the Scottish start of the Monte Carlo rally was held on the grounds of Clydebank College Just outside Glasgow. Interestingly (to me) the start line itself was pretty much bang on where the QE2's bow would have sat during construction when the land was John Browns shipyard. Anyway, onto some pictures. Light was bad, it was freezing cold and there was the usual problem of trying to take pictures of cars in a crowd of people so appologies for the quality. monte carlo start line 24 by route9autos.co.uk, on Flickr monte carlo start line 26 by route9autos.co.uk, on Flickr monte carlo start line 23 by route9autos.co.uk, on Flickr monte carlo start line 21 by route9autos.co.uk, on Flickr monte carlo start line 15 by route9autos.co.uk, on Flickr monte carlo start line 12 by route9autos.co.uk, on Flickr monte carlo start line 11 by route9autos.co.uk, on Flickr I'm affraid I had to be somewhere so couldnt hang around for the cars leaving. Wet rear floors and washer bottle leak sound connected to me.
I bought SWMBO one of these in non GT flavour as a winter hack a few years ago and the rear washer didnt work and the carpets were wet. Traced it to the pipe running from the washer bottle at the front to the rear washer jet.
Could be you have a small leak and when you park facing uphill the pressure is bypassing the pump or valve and leaking into your rear footwells?
Worth a look?
Dave.

I can see me wandering over the river for this but probably in my boring daily as the fasty is in the garage behind my 2 hire vans.
don't think Clydebank will offer the same excitement as watching the cars tear off through a city centre but should still be a great spectacle.
Dave.
