Having met Chris (and the car) once, I would concur with the above.
For those who may be worry about the timing belt, it is easy enough to replace if you're handy with a spanner or 2 hours labour at a decent garage and it doesn't require any special tools to do. The rear window issue is probably down to a faulty front driver side window actuator. Mine had the same issue which was cured by the said actuator. You can get those fairly cheaply from eBay from time to time. The other bad bits mentioned are no biggies.
Once again GLWTS.

I am currently the custodian of this MX-5. The car belongs to a friend who has moved to work in Sweden back in March 2016. I have since been baby-sitting the little Mazda, keeping the mechanics oiled and body cleaned and polished. Over the last 12 month I have used the car to commute to work from time to time, racking up just over a 1000 km (600miles), without any issues.
My friend bought the car back in 2012. Timing and auxiliary belts and water pump were replaced shortly after that along with the full service. Having owned an MX-5 in the past I helped him doing the work. The car has since had the oil changed every years, last one being in 2016. Following on from that, my friend has done several upgrades to the whole vehicle including the installation of a mini supercharger, with the view of turning the car into a track toy.
Key features/upgrades are: Engine (currently producing 200Bhp 240Nm at 6PSI):
- M45 Eaton Supercharger
- TR Lane kit
- fast 5 intercooler kit
- RX8 injectors
- Magnecor Leads
- Wide band lambda
- de-cat pipe
- Megasquirt ECU. Tuned by Blink motorsport
- Kravs reduction pulley
- New radiator in 2015 (the old one was damaged on the top hose flange while working on the engine).
- Lightweight flywheel and competition clutch
Chassis:
- MK2 Sport Big brake kit,
- Recent EBC yellow pads all around,
- braided brakes hoses
- Frame rails and underbody bracing
- Koni yellow adjustable coil over,
- Polybush super-pro complete front suspension,
- Light weight Wheels from MK2
- Limited slip differential
- Fast road track geometry setting
- 4 matching Toyo T1Rs (part worn)
Body:
- Colour coded Hard Top
- Half roll cage
- door bars and harness bar from TR-lane
- 4-Point harness driver side
- Alu washer botle from Fast 5
The car is not for the faint hearted, and needs to be treated with respect, especially in the wet. It is quick, the chassis is very stiff and the whine for the supercharger is deafening to say the least due to direct admission into the S/C. One the other ends it will scare the pedestrians and wild life away. Judging by the lists above, lots of time and money has been thrown at the car.
Being a former MX-5 owner and enthusiast, I can say that the shell on this car is very solid, with no rust to report around the sills or wheearches. The car does not appear to have ever been welded, which is becoming a rare sight on the UK roads.
The car does have a few imperfections:
- A few small dents and scratches around the body (~20 years old car)
- The os front wing was scuffed before my friend got the car. This never bothered him.
- The stitches at the bottom of the rear screen on the soft top have started to perished. This be this can be stitched up manually (I did it on my old one). The rest of the vinyl roof is immaculate.
- The alloys had been badly painted in the past (again never bothered my friend) and 2 centree caps are missing
- One of the door has a tiny bit of rust on trailing edge, probably due to an old paint damage.
The car comes with most of the parts should you wish to delete the supercharger (why you would, I don’t know), and the V5C is still under my friend name but the car is registered at my residential address. I have written authority from the owner to sign off the V5.
Had I not been in the process of downsize the fleet, I would have snapped this of him.
I am sure I have left out a few details so I might revisit this later on. I will also add some decent pictures when I get home. In the meantime, here are a few shots from my phone.
Nick.

Ok, So it is now on ebay as of tonight, with no reserve, so any bids could take this home. I have therefore decided to withdraw it from the sale on here, in fairness to any potential legitimate EBayers. I have also decided to put the other cars on the market in an attempt to free some space on the drive, should the Maxima not get any love on eBay. Therefore the other two vehicles below are now for sale. I will generate some ads for those in due course but here we have: In the meantime, feel free to PM me if any of these are of any interest.

Bit of an update since the MOT day. The car has been fulfilling its daily duty wonderfully, whilst making full use of the cargo space for the domestic chores. However, being used every day, I wanted to address the advisories for the MOT asap, namely, the rear brake performance and the tyre conditions. In the case of the former, I took the opportunity to give the brake a good clean and check the wear on both drums and shoes. Happily, everything was measured within the acceptable level so no part needed to be replaced, but the preload mechanism did require some adjustment to improve the hand brake efficiency. When looking for replacement tyres, I can across some Honda Civic IMA wheels with 4 matching Dunlop tyres on eBay. The wheels being similar size to the S-MX fitment and the price being around the same as that of a single new tyre fitted, I could not resist the bargain. A couple of days later, I was cleaning them. I must say, I was very impress with the condition after a good clean scrub and a wax. I also wanted to get the AC working. The gas had leaked out many moons ago due to failed condenser and compressor. Spare parts were sourced from the natoinal S-MX specialist, smx-servicing.com at a very reasonable price. Fitting those parts turned out to be a fairly easy job, with the front bumper taking all of 5 mins to remove. After all this hard work, I rewarded myself with fitting my newly acquired rims and took some crappy pictures in the rain. I will be taking some better pictures at the earliest opportunity. In the meantime, here is a quick then and now to illustrate the progress over the past 3-months.

I have the answer to your problem!
Sell your Max and buy mine for less. You get some money left over, you keep a Max, I get one car out of the drive to keep the wife happy and I know it's gone to a good home. Everyone's a winner and I am a genius. 😁

For sale is a set of Mustang wheels, professionally refurbished about a year ago, with plenty of tread left on the tyres. One of the wheel was repaired and the painting was done to a very high standard both inside and out. To view pictures from you mobile device, select desktop mode at the bottom of the page.
Wheel dimensions are: - Size:16in x 7.5 - Bolt pattern (PCD): 5x114.3 - Offset: 30mm - Centre bore: 70.3 Tyres are: - 4x 225/55 R16 - Tyre 1: Kumho Ecsta with 4mm-4.5mm tread left - Tyre 2: Kumho Ecsta with 6mm-6.5mm tread left - Tyre 3: Primewell PZ-900 with 5.5mm-6mm tread left - Tyre 4: Primewell PZ-900 with 5.5mm-6mm tread left There is only some slight damage on one of the wheels as shown on the picture below, but this is hardly visible when the wheels are on the car. The wheels come with the 4 centre caps which we are nicely colour matched to the wheels. I have put a picture with a centre cap fitted for illustration. These wheels owe far me more than the asking price so someone should get a bargain. Those are quite suited for a JDM style. I have put below some illustrations of the wheels fitted to my J cars. Wheels are to be collected from Halesowen area. Or you can arrange your own courrier. Thanks for looking, Nick.

Good luck with this project. Looking forward to seeing back to its former glory. As said it looked remarkably good for an 80s Datsun with a coastal life although it does look like it's been patched up in the past, judging by some of the previously posted pictures.

Thanks all for all the positive comments.
The car is also advertised on cars & classics as well as locally. I have not yet advertised it on the mainstream sites like eBay, Autotrader and the likes, because I wanted to make sure it goes to a retro enthusiast.
Thankfully I am not getting any pressure from the wife to sell at the moment, despite the drive looking like a pub carpark on a Sunday afternoon. So I can still wait for the right buyer.
As said, this is not from the common retro pools, but something different, practical and super reliable. People on the road do look at it intrigued, trying to work out what it is.
Price wise, it was difficult to value it objectively. I have grown attached to the car over the last 11 years so for me it is defo worth more than the asking price. But on the other hand I have to try to be realistic on the market value.
As I mentioned before, if this doesn't sell I will put another vehicle for sale, and see if I get more takers on that one.
Nick.

There don't seem to be much love for a well sorted and cared for Maxima. Nobody fancies driving something a bit different, or is the asking price too high?

Only just seen this thread. It's great to see the work you've put in, looking very smart! I really enjoyed the time I had it, very comfy driving it with the bench type seat and wide armrest. Ah Ben, yes it is definitely looking better than a few months back. I had a little use of the van before the steering rack failed and the baby came along, but it was enough use to fall in love with it. Love the thing more everyday. And the owner's club appears to be very helpful at sourcing any specific bits so that's great. Hope you and the missus are doing well. You were getting a Jazz to replace the Honda, were you not? Very cool and some excellent recommissioning there. Nice to have something interesting to tool about in when completing the grunt work. Thanks man, it does get noticed on the road, especially when I have the gold wheels fitted.
