Bunch of photos coming up.
Call it a mini road trip if you want.
I call it a mental health purge.
Friday night my friend Bill oxb1l called to see if he could come pitch a tent in my back yard, and bring Blue, his dog along.
I said He could have a room, but the dog would not work as George the cat does not allow cats.
He understood that.
Saturday Sally and I went to BBQ at friends Kevin and Theresa’s place to share stories of American road trips, they had just been on 4 weeks of Pacific coast Highway and crabbing etc.
While we were there, I texted my boss, at 3.00pm on a Saturday, to ask if I could take a weeks vacation as I had leave outstanding and the redundancy meant I could kinda do whatever I wanted. My diary was also empty, having handed over appointments to Ranjiv who has a job. Boss said yes.
So I texted Bill to ask if he had a spot for me to pitch a tent.
His reply from Glasgow was No place for a tent, but a spare room ready for me.
I asked Sally and Aaron the new lodger if they would feed George the cat, and they agreed……..
So once back home at 9.00pm I packed a bag, and went to bed.
Sunday morning a leisurely wake up and get up.
Leaving at 9.55am for the local Gulf station to fill the car and 10.10 am for Scotland.
The trip was uneventful till I called brachunky for a chat about life in general and it turned out he had bought an Astra van the day before.
He also had some Alloys to collect in Ilkeston, Derbyshire, which I then volunteered to do a detour for.
This brought my final days mileage up to 467 miles compared to the initial satnav suggestion.
I also saw his old Corsa Pickup around the corner from where the wheels were collected.
A real South African import bakkie
Once the wheels were handed over at Gretna where we met up, including chatting with his amazing wife Eldine, I headed off to Glasgow to Bills place.
Getting there at 18.45 just after sunset.
Welcomed by Bill and Blue the Collie/Husky cross.
Perfect.
A quick chat and then we went to the local chippy for dinner.
Saw an interest ion Polish chocolate, reminded me of someone’s name.
Small fish and chips for me and deep fried burgers for Bill.
Another new thing I had never seen.
A brilliant nights sleep in a brand new bed……
Priceless.
Monday was spent doing relaxing stuff, visiting his friends, whom I have known a while through him.
Including Gordon, Bills best mate, who had done a load of the heavy lifting with the Rezin Rockit recovery a few years ago.
Amazing guy, amazing place, amazing stuff…… some not shared here.
Loads of cars, projects, and some amazing treasures.
Gordon and Sarah’s awesome place
A few hours with Gordon, meeting a constant stream of people, including Alex Ferguson dad, this place really is a crossroads for car and automotive people seeking Gordon’s counsel
After this we went home to have some lunch that Bill made for us.
Square sausage and fried eggs.
More new food for me.
Earlier on, Bill gave me three cans of rare red Schutz Super Zinc primer.
After lunch another drive, first to go pay a bill, and in the yard these is a guy who does some cool sculptures.
Saw this……
Back home later to look at the 78 VW Passat that is actually Bills real No 1 project at the moment.
Loving the wheels of course.
Always wanted a set of these……
But to find a set, that is the problem.
I cooked us dinner, chicken legs and vegetables.
Food and company was good.
One of the best things about the whole visit with Bill was no Television.
Around 8.00pm we headed out to visit his friend Simon.
I had a few drinks and we left there after 11.00 making it a late night for me.
We were headed back to Simons place on Tuesday to take a look at some of Bills cars stored there and also Simons hoard.
More later for those interested.
