T cut will get the marker pen off the pickups and knobs.
To lock off the trem you just need to put a couple blocks of wood either side. There will be loads on google if you do a search about locking strat trems

Thanks awoo , seems like a lot of them have had the tensioners done, someone with experience is invaluable. One rolled into the shop today, love that interior- even with the standard drawing pins in the headliner. Engines and gearboxes seem pretty bullet proof and not likely to have had a hard life. sagging headliner was something my dad found happened to his after about 15 years. I think a guy ion Ramsgate sorted it (I don't remember any drawing pins, perhaps it was a fix?) I doubt many people under 50 owned these, they're probably all garaged low revs etc I think they're galvanised too

my dad had one of these for a long time and was very involved in the marque. the chain tensioners are plastic and need replacing with metal tensioners to prevent catastrophic engine failure. its a tricky job and you need a "special tool" but he made one and lent it out to people in the xk8 club.
if you buy an xk and have a head scratching moment and need any help with it, drop me a line can put you in touch. he knows these things inside out
on the whole they're very reliable, only bad thing was the depreciation and the mpg goes in to minus figures when you floor it!

Just curious about this, as I’ve seen cars advertised by car dealers, who say ‘this is my own car i’ve been using and therefore no warranties or guarantees implied, no refunds’ etc. I figured that was just fair enough it’s not a trade car. But a lady at work bought a 2010 vw camper like this, a car dealer who said very clearly he was a car dealer and therefore he only keeps the best ones for himself and has a garage at his disposal to look after them. She bought it with her husband on the basis of colour, how reflective the paint was, the pop up roof, it has a built in tv screen etc, rather than on mechanical condition, history and someone checking it over properly. Not wishing to be unsympathetic, why on earth would someone who is not able to inspect the vehicle themselves part with £10k or more for such a vehicle without getting a professional inspection?? I agree there entirely. but as I said, they bought it on spec and the colour, stuff that really doesn't matter and they over look the important bits. I see this a lot unfortunately, it's become fashionable where I live in Brighton with offensively middle class people who are desperately trying to make out they're working class, to go and buy camper vans. they all come to me at work asking if this is good and that is good, as I'm the car guy, buy without exception they're completely illogical in their thinking of what makes one good. i'll tell them something quite rational like don't buy a 30 year old camper with low miles as it will have been sitting around for ages getting rusty and taken out a couple times a year, at least get one with average miles thats been used often. then their mate who knows nothing at all about cars will say something which sounds better to them like "only buy one with low mileage and has good paint work as you will know they're the best". two weeks later they turn up with a camper van (this has happened) which looks ok but the underneath is completely rotten, subframe dangling by a thread, mot nearly run out, past mots with a massive list of corrosion issues etc. but only 45k miles... then I will hear, "well Julia said I must get one with low miles". two months later it failed the mot with £3000 quote to fix all the rust. I could go on but I'm rambling.

I used youtube to understand what was going on and what to do, the various skill elements of it.
from there did a 6 week evening class to put it in to practice and do the hands on learning with a pro on hand.
got my own welder from there.
clean metal, minimum of gaps and a bit of patience is what you need for a good weld.
also keep in mind it's a skilful bit of work, it's not something you can just do first time and be good at it. you're going to suck until you get better, so just expect to be rubbish to start with and go from there.

Fast forward a few months and very few miles, I noticed when she rolled up with it at work that it was leaking oil, I said it should get checked out as it shouldn’t be dripping oil like that. Apparently it was the fuel pump.
I asked how good it was on diesel. Turns out it was petrol. (It sounded like a bag of spanner’s so I assumed it was diesel). About a week later it breaks down and cause was the head gasket.
I suggested at the time she gets it properly checked before buying but she said he was a nice guy and ran a garage so it will be fine. Turns out it’s a lemon and I think it would have been picked up on by anyone who knew what to look for.
So my question is, when a dealer says it’s my own car, no refunds, are they really saying buyer beware?
Since paying more attention to car ads I have seen this on a car I am interested in and has got me wondering.
Also she is looking down the small claim route so would be helpful to know.

The screen was identified in the pistonheads thread. The guy that did the 3D models used it to size it up.
A lot of ground has been covered on this already but I think the general consensus was that it was based on a sunbeam alpine. The last 20 or so pages got very in depth, then it just died out. Was very interesting though

I can print a3 colour at work, it’s off a photocopier though. Might be good enough just see how it looks on paper but certainly not archive quality or anything like that. I’m in Brighton

thats just good craftsmanship. be proud of what you have done, as someone may see it in 20 years time and thank you for it.
nothing worse than pulling a panel or something off to find it horrendously bodged underneath. I'm sure we have all encountered that more often than something being done well

cheapest to buy and run reliably are Nissan micras and Toyota aygos. only my experience having helped a few people out with first cars, these were the two that I could find matching low cost and reliable for a first car. both pretty boring though. depends how much money you're chucking around I guess.

These have the B20 engine. A while back people would take the bottom end off this and mate it to the head of a B16 engine from a civic or CRX. It would take it up to an easy and reliable 200bhp.
Would be even easier to do in a CRV. Probably very cheap to get parts for the conversion too these days.
I definitely would

Used to have a neighbour who was an mot tester. He said to come in when mines due and he would sort me out.
I thought he meant he would do it half price or sort me out if something minor needed fixing and wouldn’t charge.
No, he went over the car with a fine tooth comb, most thorough test ever, fails and advisories for things like no split pins then listed every conceivable part that might have a split pin (most of these parts never had them from new), no rubber on one of the pedals, rear bumper missing a fixing to body, side repeaters light in colour. Things that never cropped up before or since.
He seemed quite proud of the conscientious job he did.
Then charged me the full £55 and gave two weeks to sort it all out!

Wish our tip was so helpful. Went there last week with garden waste and I needed a bit of white polystyrene packing, saw a bit 12 inches by 6 by 1/2 asked if I could have it. 'No says the jobsworth' 'once its in the skip you can't take it out' Had this a while ago, not with our local guys who are great, took another bag of cr@p to said skip, emptied it into skip, picked up what i wanted, in this case a pair of huge spotlights, placed in bag, returned to car and left Job done😎 Wow what a score! Got any pics?

Very good condition book. Very good content and lots of pics. I can’t get photos on here from my phone but here is a link for the exact book on Amazon. www.amazon.co.uk/How-Pinstripe-Motorbooks-Workshop/dp/0760327491Full of how to and what to do, you can get a lot out of this one. Nothing but imparting skills and techniques £12 posted or £10 collected in Brighton.

I work for the local authority where I live, not in planning but in another department people love using to dob other people in, use as as a threat/malicious reports etc.
we deal with a lot of people who can waste our time and cause other people misery as a result.
I often give advice to those in your position (the ones getting the grief from the idiots) and one of those things is if you're feeling like their behaviour is having a negative impact on you in anyway, you're being harassed, therefore call 101 and report these people for harassment. as you're well within your rights to do so.
In your case this will likely apply, although if you're going a legal route, you may want to seek legal advice around anything you choose to do first.
if you do want to report harassment, the above advice from snooks would be worth following up as well, about the antisocial behaviour. this usually will come under a local authority's housing department.
they would probably be mortified if the police and a housing officer came knocking due to their harassment and anti social behaviour.
one other thing, in my experience, when people go on these campaigns against another person, they very rarely do a good job of it. myopic, poorly planned and with very little grounding. it doesn't take much to put them straight. only down side is the bloodymindedness and tenacity these people seem to have, thats what you need to find a way to stop
