Has anyone got a link to the XJS thread? I feel very left out. He deleted it and his account from what I recall. Was a proper sit down and get the popcorn thread. If he’s on autoshite I would like to see the thread. Genuinely interested to know what happened.

I want to know what happened to that school kid who bought a basket case xjs to restore, had no experience or knowledge, priority was buying a cover for it and was afraid of using an angle grinder. He had so much belief he could do it, would love to know where he got to.

If it’s been taken abroad and nothing registered (only assuming as no documents) it might be really simple? Might just be like it has been off the road for 20 years. No one needs to know it has left the country if there’s nothing saying it has

No way, I met mdh about ten years ago when he bought a tool chest from me.
Thoroughly nice chap. He told me story about a broken Porsche 911 he was potentially buying and that little chat got me on to a long journey of looking in to buying a 911.
Rip mate.

I was almost going to start another thread for this because I'm so chuffed with it but it's a tip find so here it is. I'd been thinking of getting a bike since the ride2work scheme started but didn't want to spend that much on something that might try and kill me (not ridden for afew years) and I wouldn't be using it for work anyway, that's 17 miles of madness. Went to the tip yesterday and amongst the kids bikes, shoppers, scooters and bmx was a nice and dusty Giant hunter. I don't know much about bikes but it looked like it had decent bits on it. They wanted £20 for it until I pointed out it had no pedals so he said £15. I'dve paid £20 easily. Got it home, got pedals and stuff off my housemate and his brother, full service and pumped the tyres up. Painted the mud guards as they were scratched. Its got no real signs of use anywhere and has original everything, tyres, brake pads, everything. Rides like a brand new bike too. My guess is the gear cable frayed and jammed the gears, stuck it in the shed and forgot about it. The luggage rack is epicly over engineered. And the paint is a very fine metallic, looks anodised in the sun. Didn't think I'd be genuinely enthused about a bike, but housemate recons it's 25 years old, so I got me a retro ride. Or 'old man bike' according to him. Nice bike, the only thing old man bike about it are the old man accessories, such as the stand, rack, reflectors, lock, mud guards etc. take those off and it would be totally rad. Retro mountain bikes are getting quite collectible now.

A Matra Murena is a new one for me. French, produced 1980-1983 and must get bonus points for being a 3-seater! Anyone on here ever owned one? Never owned one but was after one a while back. Around 2005 they used to pop up a fair bit, one or two a month. You could pick them up from under a grand. Apparently have a 205 Gti engine. Scarce in England but more of them in France. I was after either one of those, an Isuzu piazza or an old Maserati Bi turbo. Only wanted something a bit unusual/exotic on the cheap. Ended up buying a mk2 Honda CRX instead which was totally awesome. Would still like any of those cars but very thin on the ground now and probably hella money.

Thanks for the suggestion, little bit too far for me as I’ll have to ride my bike to get home but might be able to sort something out if need be. That could be helpful for someone else though 👍 Now see I've thought of that! www.cyclingfromguildford.co.uk/route3.html just a short 40mile cycle up the Downs Link (passes only about 1/2 mile from his workshop) no problem! Ha that’s awesome, under normal circumstances I would do that but a little pressed for time currently. Just got a quote from Portslade panel works who have worked on my cars in the past. Bit more than I was expecting but having a fair bit done so will go with that.

Might be a bit further than you want to go but Stella Welding in Cranleigh did a good job on a repair to the chassis rail on my Cortina - stella-welding.co.uk/They could do it quickly and I didn't think they were wildly expensive. cheers Cortinaman Thanks for the suggestion, little bit too far for me as I’ll have to ride my bike to get home but might be able to sort something out if need be. Hi
Got a 1998 Honda integra type R and it has typical Honda rust in the rear arches and sills. Needs to be cut out and new metal welded in for the MOT.
I went to one place and they said they wouldn’t do rust repair, they appear to only do crash repair on modern stuff from what I could tell.
Anyone know of any reasonable priced place that will do this sort of work in the Brighton or surrounding area please?

This car was on the cover of a hot rod magazine I randomly bought in around 2000 on a P&O ferry. Before that I was into max power rubbish but that magazine (and this exact car) turned my head as it detailed all this fabrication and crazy goings on I was totally unaware of. One of the things was a guy working on a pickup and he fabricated a corner part of the bed from a bit of old exhaust bend. Totally blew my little 17yr old mind. Then I read about this car and it had a cosworth engine in the engine bay and barely anything else. Never seen anything like it. If it wasn’t for that I wouldn’t have got in to the proper car stuff. This was the mag, can’t add a pic on my phone :/ i.ebayimg.com/images/g/aq8AAMXQd2hRYXH9/s-l400.jpg

No ideas on what else it looks like but if you have the other bit it surely could be repaired?
Or even a 3D printed replica made

Those bulbs look awesome, I love a bit of neon bulbage.
Something very pleasing about the light they create

Going on the jeans and sideburns I would guess this was early 2000s?
Strangely a mate had a Hondamatic accord he bought for £95 around 2003 that we graffitied, although not as nicely as that.

Thanks for the help from all who have posted.
Due to a few things going on I only got a chance to get to the car yesterday. The sealey tool I bought annoyingly didn’t work and is getting returned. But using the multimeter on the correct setting this time, I found it had 1amp draw. Which would make sense as I have a 48amph battery that would be dead in a couple of days.
Pulled the option fuse and it went straight down to .1amp. So I think have found the issue. The only thing that I’m aware of on that circuit is an aftermarket alarm and immobiliser. When I connect the battery I usually get a blip from the alarm but when the fuse is pulled it doesn’t make that noise any longer. So I’m pretty certain the alarm is the culprit here as everything else seems good.
Now I have to figure out how to remove it!

Probably looking at around 400-500 quid maybe? Worth getting a quote as a last resort atleast Easy. I agree, get a quote, it looks pretty simple, I dare say it would cost a lot less than you imagine it might. I am imaginig a lot more than I want to pay. Doubt it, asked a local trimmer to quote for a bikini top for the LR, was an absolutely stupid amount of money. It was a complete FO quote as they didn’t want the work as not their normal thing. Suspect that this would come under the same thing unless you got lucky. James Agree with James. Mostly they do not want to work out of their commercial field. Buy a used item, or a new, unused item. Hence putting the question out there. I was thinking more along the lines of a person with an industrial sewing machine who do general repairs and fabrication. I used to work somewhere that did canvas and leather repairs. To fix or remake something like that would be easy job for them and they used to charge peanuts. Was ten plus years ago but there are loads of these people out there if you have a look.

Ok cool I will get to this when I finish work. Thanks for the tip Would you happen to know if I put the multimeter in series and set to voltage like I have been doing, should it read as 12v? I’m hoping that this is just a correct reading and I’ve been barking up the wrong tree It will read 12V because that’s the nominal voltage. If the radio, clock, etc have backup then you’ll always see 12V as all you are doing is completing the circuit. It’s the amp draw you need to measure, make sure the ignition is off and the interior lights are disabled and go from there. Thanks, makes perfect sense and at the back of my head I did wonder 🤦♂️
