I have picked up yet another project, it was uk registered, but taken abroad, about 20 years ago, no documents but does have number plate and vin number. Will getting a v5 be a as simple as applying for it, or will this just be a huge can of worms Ttfn Glenn

If it’s been taken abroad and nothing registered (only assuming as no documents) it might be really simple? Might just be like it has been off the road for 20 years. No one needs to know it has left the country if there’s nothing saying it has

As awoo says, drop in an application for a v5, what's the worst that can happen? Edit- it's DVLA, could go very bad very quickly! 🙄

Yeah, I was forgetting you've got history with them, here's hoping for the successful outcome like you got last time 👍

Just apply for the logbook, if it is all in one piece (or can be made to look like it might be on the road sometime soon) take photos of the vehicle and chassis number and send them with the application. Address it to Clerical Vehicle Enquiries, it's a slightly different postcode but I can't remember it and attach a covering letter saying you believe the vehicle has been marked as exported at some point so attach photos as proof it still exists.
NB when SORN first came in there were quite a few vehicles that weren't going back on the road any time soon that got marked as exported rather than have to deal with remembering to SORN every year.

Thanks for the advice, had a trawl through the dvla website and finally found the information I was needing. Have to send them, V5 application Export documents ( don't have any ) Current mot Payment for tax Proof of address If I don't want to tax it, I can send a sorn application at the same time, and no need for mot
It cannot be that simple can it??? Not even a fee for the v5!!!! Ttfn Glenn
