Who wants some photos?!?!?!?! When I started removing the paint on the car to see how it looked behind it I was a bit confused to see so many layers of paint/primer, so 6 months ago I went to the paint shop to have a chat with the fella that works there. I asked if there was a special primer to paint over all of the layers of paint/primer and he said ''Yes, you just need the rubb the paint abit to remove any loosened paint.'' I woundered for a bit and thought ''If the paint is loosened, I could paint it with that special primer but I don't think it will hold for that long to start craking again''... So I asked again if there was a primer specific for old/rusty cars he said yes there is and is cheaper than the other one. So I bought it and some filler 2K primer and some 2K paint and some cleaner and some 2K paint for the 16 year old white Mitsubishi Lancer, who doesn't have rust but has some dents and some flacky clear coat... The cans inside of the box are for the lancer... It costed me 256€ for all that, 1.5l for the Lancer and 2l for the Volvo, and some masking tape for good measure... Photos of the week progress, not all the time but plenty ... The Purple coloured parts are the rust treatment that was done to the rust and it was almost all of the car stripped of it paint, top side of things... Some photos are darker due to the flash on the camera... Here you can see how many layers of paint/primer it had... The roof was covered with dots of rust... The doors waiting for their time.... Here is the missing bonnet for my Lancer and some side skirts waiting for their time to be painted... Here is the happy countender soon to be with a new layer of paint... Here you can see that someone had already started sanding without my permission... And this is where it's at... Sooon to be primed and with some doors to be repaired...

I know what you mean. I was looking at the weather for today and trying to decide if I should head down to the car and start to sand/prime/paint or not. --Phil I saw the forecast of the weather for this week last wednesday and took a week of work to do the prepping for the primer. It was as they said it would be, all sunny and temps avg. 24ºC in the day and 12ºC in the night. Tommorow it will be a bit clouddy but 20ºC with low wind. Let's see if I can put the special primer on and then the filler primer...

I see that your's doesn't have the rev counter, the ambient temperature gauge and vacuum gauge. Do you want one that has it?!? I can trade you mine that has that including the sensor for the temp. for yours just for postage costs and the water gauge. Mine is in Km's though.

Nice... I bought my '87 Volvo 340 B14e-4 nearly 100km's from home, almost all rustted out on the front cross member but it came on the motorway averaging 100km/h and it still going strong even with all the rust... When I bought it the idea as never to restore it because of the dents on the panels, every panel as one... Now is waiting outside for me to complete the turbo upgrade with stock engine and a solex 32dis carb from a R5GGTurbo and a Garrett gt1646v for some fun.... Drifting....

Good good. I am also waiting for my 164 comming out of the body shop in the end of the month. Seems so looooong. Yeah.... the worst part for me is this one because I hate sanding... I would trade this part for some complete car electric re-wiring or anything mechanical...

The car looked very well from underneath the undersealer...
My '73 Volvo 164 almost looked the same as yours, almost no rust apart the usual places like the boot wheel weels...
Nice job ... Keep it up..

No problem at all, I'm happy to help. Found some more info about the engine: It's built mainly for drivability, with a special camshaft from KG Trimning (www.kgtrimning.com), forged pistons, radius valve seats, 46/38,5 valves and triple Weber 48's. I know they had some issues with torsional vibration, but that is now sorted. Best regards Bjorn Thanks for that info... That was what I was looking for... Some engine dampers would work great or some solid mounts...

Ohyes, I'm really impressed by their driving! I don't think there's so much info about Tom's 164 on the web, but I've got a magazine from last year with some specs etc. Engine: B30 2996cc, 270-280 hp (even more this year), close to 300 Nm. Built by Jonas Banck (JB-engine). Transmission: Standard 4-speed M400 with close-ratio gearset, 4,88 final drive. Suspension: Öhlins-dampers. Brakes: Standard ventilated discs, Brembo 4-pot calipers. Well, that's about it Best regards Bjorn Thanks Do you know anything on the spcs of the engine?!?! Cam, carb or efi... THOSE ARE A VERY MOTIVATING DUO FOR ME... Best regards

Well done! Keep up the good work! Just to increase your motivation, here are some clips of my friend Tom, driving his historic Volvo 164 Rally Car on maximum attack. Hope you like it! Best regards from Sweden! /Bjorn Thanks for the support... I've seen all the videos from Tom and also from Jerry AK. Very serious driving with an old girl... Do you or can you find out the forum build of that car?!?! Would love to know more specs of it...
