The modifed Caddy made me chuckle! But back to the Capri. Thanks ALOT for the comments guys. The main issue that I think i'm going to face will be the room in front of the front wheels that will be taken up by the engine (as said above) The audi quattro gearbox idea would put the engine in the right orientation, but it would also put the engine further forward than the transverse box on the VR6 engine i have now (i had a 2.8 a4 in the past and toyed with the idea of making a f1 style car with the engine/gearbox!) If a MK4 golf estate shell comes up cheap (or someone would like to donate one ) I might stick all the bits in that instead as the IVA/ SVA test that I will need and the Q plate that it would end up with would take quite a lot out of my budget (which I could use on turboing the v8 already sat in the Capri) Still, i haven't built my garage yet so that takes priority for now! Great work fella!
Putting the car together is the easy bit, making the parts, working out how to and making the tools to make them fit takes all the time!

seeing at it will run at 1400 rpm, set the throttle stop screw so that it will run at the and then check for air leaks, are you getting a good trigger signal at low rpm aswell?
Take a log of it whilst it is running (if you can, never used MS1, just MS2) and also ask on the megasquirt forum as there is a wealth of info on there!
usually when its getting a big fluctuation between the AFR readings you have a miss fire of some sorts in my experience.

Well the other week i had a bit of an accident in my 2.8 4motion golf, resulting in me having a knackered shell, but perfectly good running gear underneath. I also have a mk3 Capri shell without an engine (there is a v8 but i don't know if its any good and if it is i think the hillman would like it more) So this got me thinking, which led to a few measurements being taken, all of which say DO IT! (mainly because there is only a 20mm diferance between the capri's wheelbase and the golf!) Does anyone know of any build threads or people swapping 4motion stuff into another shell? Its always good to start with some research and i havent built my garage yet so itll be homework for the evenings James

Hello everyone.
I have a MK6 escort van with a very tired 1.8 endura D non-turbo engine. To remedy this i'm looking at swapping in a 1.8 endura tddi turbo diesel engine from a MK1 focus.
To the best of my knowledge they both use the MTX75 gearbox and the same block so i should be able to use the drive-shafts and mounts from my original engine/gearbox, just leaving the ecu and wiring harness to swap over ( ? )
What i'm not unsure about is if I have missed something along the way, so if anyone has any pointers or has swapped an engine in one of these before then please drop me a comment before it all goes wrong!
Cheers in advance.
James

Hello, I have owned this compressor for about 4 years now, but i have only used it around 3 times for any real work. I got it off my partners father who used it for spray painting lamp bases and he said it was a very good compressor! It works very well, getting up to pressure without any leaks, bangs or funny noises. I stuck fresh oil in it when i got it and made sure that i drained off any condensate whenever it was pressurised. I'm after £190 ono, a swap for an AC/DC tig welder, 1.8tddi engine for my escort van ready to swap into it or whatever you want to offer really! here are some pictures and a video (when i work out how to get in on here properly) Its currently in Carlisle, but i could deliver it for fuel money if you want. if you have any questions or want extra pictures, just ask and ill get some for you James
