I'm signed up for my first rally. The Hero Stages at Weeton (near Blackpool) on the 4th of August. Need to get prepped for it.
I've been speaking with a potential co-driver getting ready for it, and I've been researching bits and pieces to buy for the van to make it a better service vehicle.
I packed everything from last weekend away, cleaned the car, then took it for a long trip out to try a few things. I wound the dampers up full but the car still stands on its nose under heavy braking. The springs are too soft, but may well be the right ones for a very rough runway etc. single venue. Probably even right for gravel.
I stopped the back end getting squirrelly under braking by easing the bias slightly further forward. Gave it a good 30 minute run and it all seems happy.
On with some work.
Started building up the wishbones, pressed in the bush cups.

the bushes were a pain to get in, but got there in the end

I've gone for "sport" for these and they seem fairly robust, harder "motorsport" poly bushes are also available so if these prove too soft I may try getting some of them. The C2R2's run a special housing with a spherical bearing in them which would be good but cost a lot. Maybe I'll get some events under my belt before getting over excited with bits.
talking of getting over excited. I think i've found another source of the rattles. This jack is only held in with a bungy chord and it can move on its base easily.

there's a lot of metal on metal contact, so good opportunity to rattle. I added a strip of rubber under the front hook, but it can still move. There are 2 x M6 bolts used as locating pins. So i'll use one for a clamp

A small piece of ali

turned and milled some flats on it

screws in like so, very easy to undo and stops any movement

I then thought i'd try the 10mm spacers on the wheels to see how they set. Effectively making them ET10 offset (as they are ET20 wheels) which is the offset the C2R2's run. The C2R2's run the Citroen C4 Upright/hub but I don't think the flange to ball joint distance changes.

Defintely fills out the arches more. Will give it a road test next weekend.
