Wow. A year. Got married, came moments from moving out to the mountains, bought a house, never been so busy with 'life' as now. It moves fast, Datsun has barely been touched in that time. That said...it's one happy rotsun in its new home..next to my house..no more renting a shop...YAY. Now the snow is melting and house renos have calmed down a little, I can hopefully find some time to drive it more with some video and photos. Big thanks to joeytalent sending a message that inspired me to actually fix my broken Flickr log in and make a laughable short update. Something to come..soon..probably. Hurray an update! Looks awesome. So you are still in Waterloo?

Porsche - Having the exhaust exiting the lower front wing would sort a good few issues, but there isn't really enough room in the engine bay sadly, especially for a silencer! As it'll be pretty much a daily, I'm not sure the M.O.T. people will appreciate it dragster loud. Motorcycle silencer?

Could you have the current flywheel checked at a machine shop, it might be okay...maybe even add a couple of weld beads for peace of mind? JP It's cold season right now so everything up here is pretty much shut down until May. Down Toronto way there are things open, I'll drop it off with a shop down there next time I'm in the area. In the meantime I have ordered this: I'll be aligning this to the 90 degree SBC pattern on my existing adaptor to cut and weld in. With no shop and temperatures around -20C it'll be slow going 'till April! Whereabouts are you?

Dude this is so ugly it's cool! I love it! +1! It's quirky and different and unique. I kind of like the homage and i would keep it - particularly as that is what you bought.

at least one should be in very good condition. famous last words. Get the batteries checked before you try anything else - simple things first is better than making it complicated (don't ask me hpow I know)

I added two legs to the engine with angle iron and link nuts with long bolts in them head cut off and a point ground on the shaft and a nut welded to the shaft about 1/2 inch away from the end, made the "ring" part and added one to that got the engine level by putting an electronic spirit level on the flywheel, wind bolts in/out to get perfectly level the gearbox was done in the same way with the two legs on the faceplate of the gearbox (measured the distance from the centre of the flywheel to the floor and cut the faceplate to size) the third one coming off the gear lever mounting bolt holes,(spirit level on the face plate) get both at the same height just by using the input shaft and the spigot bearing then just measured the distance from the flywheel to the faceplate to get the side to side distance Thank you - that is very helpful though I must still get my head around it.

As above, never would have thought to make a bellhousing from scratch. Great way of adapting a gearbox though! Looking forward to seeing things progress +1 - thank you for this. Question (and I may have missed it) How do you initially allign the engine and the transmission?

I have tried getting guys in to do the work but I get really, really pi88ed off at paying good money to guys that just please their selves instead of pleasing the customer - I then have to put right their poor excuse for work I feel your pain. When SWMBO started out with our first house 30 or so years ago - we had to do our own work because we couldn't afford anything else. Then we realized that doing it ourselves meant we could have better fixtures. Now we know how to do it and are just so frustrated with people who seem to have more than enough work (and won't tell us that) My version of the Christmas Reno is finishing the Dining Room to be ready for Christmas dinner (who needs a dining room for Christmas dinner - sheesh?! This was finishing replacing a door. A door that was delivered August 8 in anticipation of the contractor showing up the next day - I finally called him in October and told him not to bother. (again, not begrudging him or his work - but if you are too busy or don't want a small job, for heaven's sakes, tell me, I will understand.) I then had a friend find me a contractor who basically gave me a "go away" bid. So, called up my son and after one crazy day, the door was at least in and the house closed in again. Almost done - there are two more doors that need to go in - pantry - so, not quite done, but, done enough for Christmas. Happy Wife - Happy Life! Before inside Before Outside After Outside After Inside BTW loving what you are doing to the old church - that is a reno that is both beautiful and respectful. Love the Jowett work elsewhere as well. Cheers!

I totally don't understand the tax rules of these countries far across the sea, but, if I read this correctly, if you license the car now it is 720 euros and if in 2022 it is 220. Thats said, for the sake of only 180 euros per year (720 spread out over 4 years) would you not just want to have the car for your use and pleasure? Forgive me but it seems penny wise and pound foolish. I hear ya! However there's a plot twist coming...... Waiting.....

the next day I sat at the computer to figure out what, if anthing the taxbasta....taxman was going to want. Turns out that if the car is worth less than €2000 there is a flat charge. Its €720!!!!!! Thats 100 more than I paid for the entire car!! Just to get a license plate. So its getting officially exported back to Northern Ireland and I'll restore it. In 2022 it'll be 30 yrs old and cost €220 to import.
