I personally would do everything myself
Not taring everyone with the same brush, but 90% of the people who did Motor Vehicle Studies at my school (and subsequently work in Garages) shouldn't be allowed near crayons, let alone your brakes!
As such, a History file means very little to me...

Same size mate, literally a carbon copy, well the early ones were, then someone took over Willy's or Ford or whoever made the original and got a bit arsey about it, so the bonnet bulge and the rear arches appeared

Gonna set it up as it is in the mgf. Mid engine, rwd
I was looking for an mx5, but once I delved into the mgf and did some measurements it seemed viable and more importantly unique!
Everything is part of the subframes, literally everything drive train related so it's perfect
I did think about taking the outer panels off the mgf and sticking the body on, but I think that would be a compromise and wouldn't look the part interior wise. Plus the wheelbase is all wrong...
I've just ordered many many lengths of steel, I guess I should crack on pulling the mg apart

Wanna buy it? I have all the escort stuff forsale, i'm told the suspension donor was an RS2000 (they were pence at the time) so fingers crossed the rear diff is a 3.54, should recoup the money i spent on buying the thing

So this happened this weekend First off windscreen off, The builder decided to use at least 30 7/16's bolts to hold this on, oh and that weird non setting mastic stuff you put round windows in the 80's! Next up was the 'cage'. This is an odd thing in the fact its built from 5-6mm wall tubing so no doubt could withstand a plane crash, but then its just sleeved and bolted to the chassis with a single M10 (or imperial equivalent) bolt on each corner. The bolts came out fine, but the tubes were seized solid into the sleeves, so out came the grinder and it finally came free I'd previously undone the actual thousand and 12 bolts that held the body to the chassis, but today i found some more, or someone put them back when i wasnt looking, either way, meh, they sucked to get out. But out they came and after a lot of heaving, shoving, sweating and using the trolley jack the body came free from the chassis. This left this. I just need to remove the engine and the axle and clean it up I gave me Dad a shout and he arrived within 10 mins and we carried the shell to its position for the next god knows how many months down the garden Thus concludes this weekends work. You can see the mgf donor looking on anxiously in some of the pics, I think it knows its fate, poor thing!

I bought one of them rubber stamps you can change the letters on
Got it reading something like
Home service Oil, filters, plugs 01/04/2016 2160324 miles
Cost about £3 and it seems to appease folks by making the book look fuller, plus it keeps a proper record for me I guess...

If you do this, be sure to soak your carbs in carb cleaner and leave the itg ones on for 4 days first...

Outside where it's meant to be
Garage's are for working on cars, not storing them!

Does the car leak?
If not leave it outside, covers for the best part cause more harm...

Another little update Got the jackshaft fitted to gear down the motor. This was a fiddly thing to sort. The savvy of you will notice the axle sprocket is now back to its original side and the chassis altered again. I was having a youtube moment the other day watching a few gx390 engined karts. Odd i thought, that one has the head facing towards the rear; next vid, hold up, that one to! A quick wander to the garage and a yank on the pullstart confirmed the engine rotates anti-clockwise... Super! All the work i'd done to the chassis I had to cut out and move again, happy times...

From the actual internets:
"It's important to understand not all carpet is created equal, proper auto quality hessian backed genuine wool Wilton is by far the best, it is however very stiff & difficult to work so expect sore fingers & use of swear words when cutting & fitting.
But the finished results & longevity you'll enjoy with Wilton are well worth the pain.
Avoid any carpet that's latex backed at all costs, if it ever gets wet the latex backing will crumble to dust with disastrous consequences."
And the internets is always right

The welding is where a crack has been repaired as you mention
Get the new crack welded and ground - enjoy

I'd want something with the least soakaupableness possible (that's a word, serias)
Because: British soft-top
So in my mind rubber/latex sounds ideal (Though that could apply to many areas of my life)
