As I'm keeping the top mount intercooler, I needed a scoop to divert air over it. This is scoop.I noticed the wings on the 306 donor had some nice curves so I started chopping them up. Trimmed down: Both wings cut and mocked up Prepping for new metal to be added Engine/intercooler covered so I can squirt in expanding foam. This was so I could divert air just across the intercooler, otherwise it'd take the easiest path (straight out the back) Foam added: Part of a bird cage I found in a skip Trimmed and put in place. The back trim around the front of the scoop is half of a window rubber trim from the 306 It's rough and ready, but getting it back on the road is priority. Next up is nose cone and bonnet.

A short story about selling V5s
Chapter One
Once upon a time Bill was clearing out his loft. A dozen 'What Car' magazines, an old Roses tin full of badges, the big box of lego or meccano (delete as age appropriate), all the classics were there. Then he came across a big folder, lots of old paperwork that was fit for the shredder (or compost heap if your nitrogen/carbon ratio is messed up). But something caught his eye, a couple of old logbooks for some kit cars he used to have. "Ha haaa!" he couldn't help but let out a chuckle. 'I remember these' he thought to himself. 'One ended up in a ditch, a write off. The other I ended up using the engine and it ended up rusting away under a patchy tarp, both were chopped up or taken by the scrapman. At the 'CROWN and Cock' Bill mentioned his attic adventures to Nigel. "You can get some cash for those, Bill" Bill was amused at first.
Later that night, Bill had put a couple of adverts up for the log books on the internet. He turned off the computer and went to bed. At sparrow's fart he was up to have his cornflakes and cup of steaming hot stimulants as usual. He fired up the big beige box with the Pentium 450MHz inside ('if it ain't broke!' he'd say to himself) He had a few more emails than usual, even when taking the viagra and western union scams into account.
'Your listing has been withdrawn as it was in breach of our terms and conditions'
"Oh come on, it's only a bit of paper for crying out loud!" Then he checked the rest of his messages. "Hi I saw your advert got pulled but I was interested..." They all started like that. In the end Bill sold both his logbooks within a couple of hours and half a dozen emails, and he had his money to squander of hard liquor and women
Chapter Two.
A bundle of letters thudded on the doormat, 7:30 as always 'Ken's always been a good postie' Kyle said to himself. That V5 had arrived, great! Now he could get on with getting that 'creation' on the road. Kyle loved to cut corners and save money, and this V5 was an effective time saving device. Going this route instead of IVA would save hundreds. He wasn't sure about that front suspension, or the brackets on the rear axle. He knew the MOT test wouldn't pick up certain things anyway. Not long now til I'm on the road! He finished his cigarette and popped out to walk the dog.
Chapter Three (these are short chapters, aren't they?)
Rob had met up with Bill a few hours after his email. He pulled out a brown envelope from his jacket and handed it to Bill, the exchange was swift. Bill was keen to talk to Rob about his old days building cars, and was interested in any projects Rob might have. Maybe he could even pass on a few tips to this budding builder? But Rob made his excuses and left, something about his son and the doctors. Rob arrived at his lockup and hung his jacket up. He lifted up the tarpaulin and got to work.
The end?
For Bill, yes. And no, he hadn't really thrown away the money on booze. He was a good man who just wanted a new greenhouse, maybe a new garage door and to take Marcia out for a nice lunch at a national trust place.
Kyle? He got his car on the road okay, his mate at the garage even gave it a 'Pass'. It was great out on the country roads, big blue skies that went on and on. A stop for a bite to eat, a dozen or more times "nice car, mate" or "what's it got in it?" made him smile. After a failure of the front offside suspension and steering at around 65mph on the twisties, he was lucky. Only a few cracked ribs, a broken wrist and pretty bad whiplash. The lady coming the other way in the Fiesta, she died on impact.
Rob could now get his car on the road. Beautiful it was! Hayabusa powered, all the trick parts you could list. Quaife diff, a new hybrid turbo, high end ECU, a sweet custom exhaust, I could go on for hours on the spec. The build had taken over 500 hours, I mean the detail on this thing was unbelievable. Every bracket had seen a milling machine or the bed of a waterjet cutter. Powder coating, anodizing, polishing, CAD, enough carbon to fill your coal scuttle. It had taken Steve 2 years to make this car, this machine. The only issue was, Steve was devastated. He didn't know where his pride and joy was. It was stolen, trailer and all from a layby whilst he ran with his green fuel can to get some more petrol. 'How could I have been so stupid?!' Beating himself up happened all the time, 'what ifs' and 'if onlys'. Building his car had been a form of therapy for Steve, it had got him through some tough times, but now he had slipped into a deep depression. The police had done their best, the adverts and forum threads where shared readily. But that was two years ago now. Rob got out his grinder and spray gun, this 'machine' was about to vanish.
So you know who's buying that V5?
TL;dr: ringing is for prannocks.

I thought the vane pump was seized. Confirmed, see photo for details: I took the top off another bosch pump and it was very clean inside and full of diesel. I got that swapped over. All I've done so far is a gov mod. Engine fired up so quickly and it goes properly again. Great success! Now to tackle the 'to do' list

In the meantime if a proven XUD powered car comes up for sale locally then I could stick that in to get her back on the road quickly This is a thing that happened. I spotted a 306 on ebay that was 10 miles away and went to look at it. Just over 100k on the clocks which is rare enough to see these days. No oil leaks from any part of the engine and it sounded sweet with no smoke. I got it home and started taking it to bits Express drive shaft removal All out And now back in the MK Exhaust mods Radiator and coolant lines all sorted so I had a quick drive around the yard. Air is getting in the fuel so I need to sort the lines and filter out, and the clutch needs bleeding As you can see from the pics, I've ditched the fancy manifold and supercharger for now. I'm going to be building up a HDI engine with a mechanical pump later this year. That will have forged con rods and better head studs. It will share the same engine mounts and will bolt straight up to the same gearbox, but I'll need to make a new exhaust manifold and intake as they are different so it seemed daft to carry on sorting out the supercharger setup. So for now it's a stock engine so I can get it back on the road as soon as possible and as cheap as possible. I'm using the middle box from the 306 as a silencer and as many hoses and fixings I can. The top mount intercooler may as well stay, I'll just have to make a little scoop for it.

You were getting a Jazz to replace the Honda, were you not? Yeah that's already been and gone Volvo V50 daily at the moment and a new engine in my kit car so that should be back on the road soon

Only just seen this thread. It's great to see the work you've put in, looking very smart! I really enjoyed the time I had it, very comfy driving it with the bench type seat and wide armrest.

Just to clarify in both the Q plate and age related routes, I'm talking about both going through the IVA test (SVA in 2006 in my case) and then registering correctly. I'm not talking about using the donor's V5 as the ID for the kit car. That route is rather naughty!

I built a Q plate kit car. I got a Q as I didn't use a single sierra donor, otherwise I'd have kept the donor's V5 and gone for an age related plate. I wasn't bothered at all, not fussed by any image and I have no plans to sell. Insurance for me is £90/year and visual smoke test for emissions. Also BRB, lol.

Not really much to report, sadly. The engine I had in the car went bang so I went and got a second hand "yer m8 gud runner m8" etc etc. Spent the day swapping engines round to be met with exhaust gases belching out of places where coolant should be (more than just a head gasket)
I've become fed up with buying engines with unknown history so I've started to do a HDI to mechanical conversion. I've got a good proven engine (heard and seen running nicely) and I've started to mount the pump, but haven't got much further yet.
In the meantime if a proven XUD powered car comes up for sale locally then I could stick that in to get her back on the road quickly - the HDI conversion means the gearbox and engine mounts all transfer over, but intake and exhaust manifold will have to be made again. Bit of a pain, but wasn't that happy with the first exhaust manifold anyway, V2 will be the bee's reproductive arrangement.

Last couple from the slides: Oh and this yellow Stag from an earlier slide: Here's the same street now: Turns out the Stag has a current MOT and is taxed. A little googling lead to this picture from May this year: Flickr stag photo May 2016Same owner as back then, I've passed on the pic to the stag owners club

A few more street scenes from another small box: Wonder what kind of accommodation these are, bit like a modern day trailer park? My mum has told me that these were accommodation for ten pound poms until they sorted a house out. Apparently rather basic and hot. My mum and family didn't need to stay in these as they had an auntie out there already to stay with (still out there now )
