It's exploded, hasn't it? I joined in November 2006 (ignore the join date on my profile...) and there were something like 1200 members back then. Now there are over 20,000, but you know what? That vibe's STILL there, it's what keeps me coming back. Keep on keepin' on.

Thank you Brian, look forward to the next one! Fully enjoyed that. I forgot before I left to say thanks to the chap who's brain I was picking about the Scally Rally in the Blue Citroen! Thanks for the advice! Just gonna do some maths and see if I can afford it! That'll be Jon (Sidewinder on here). I'll pass your appreciation on, mate.

New year, new meet. Was pretty chuffed at the turnout given that it was quite unbelieveably cold and miserable. Thanks also to local Staffs members of 2CVGB (Chaseracers Branch) for swelling the ranks, and to Jon 'Sidewinder' Clewer for being such a jolly decent chap and picking me up at 9am this morning. Enjoy the pics....and those others of you who went armed with cameras/phones feel free to add your own. I'll bookmark this thread and add to it as the months go by. Andy Morris's 'Buzz' is a bit of a legend in 2CVing circles. Made a grand entrance to the car park today at the usual '2CV Maximum Attack' lean angle....but a broken chassis meant it left on a transporter. Being welded up as I type. The sheer diversity of this place never ceases to amaze me. Cossack-liveried Mk2 Rally-rep was running a Pinto on bike carbs and sounded gorgeous as it left. SE6A Scimitar sounded similarly lovely (you can't beat a V6) and that Polo looked amazing given the state of the roads right now. What a joy. I know I'm biased when it comes to Gallic tin, but that's bloody lovely. I wanted to take it home, I wanted to cuddle it, I wanted to tear off its underwear, bend it over and give it a right good (continued page 93) ;D Sidewinder's '76 Ami 8, which I travelled up in. Trailered up from Brittany a couple of summers back and given some serious attention with the welding torch. Now used and enjoyed regularly and has been back to France twice already. Gorgeous, relatively quiet and comfortable, and doing 60 miles in it today has done absolutely NOTHING to dampen my desire to repatriate one myself. Loved this more-door split-screen Minor. Packing 1275cc of screaming A-series under the bonnet, and a Ford back axle....which proved its mettle when leaving the car park in a haze of molten rubber. Also in shot here are Sidspop's Thames pickup (which also lit them up on the way out) and ChasR's 205 (ditto)....which sounds in fine fettle for a car with over 170k on the clock. Album here: www.flickr.com/photos/damaged23/sets/72157629083720679/with/6782776377/Thankyou to everyone who turned out. The next meet will be on Sunday Feb 26th, same time (10am). Hope to see you again (and a few more) then.

Cracking meetup and a fine breakfast despite the weather being a bit chilly! Even managed to get down to the Moat House meet afterwards too. Thanks to Brian for organizing, and looking forward to the next ont. Thanks for coming, buddy! Wasn't a bad turnout considering the weather (it was absolutely bloody FREEZING). Am just uploading the couple of dozen pics I took, will start a thread over on the General page when they're done. See you on 26th February!! ;D

I did try The Pit Stop, which is a big (and excellent) cafe just off J5 of the M5, and much closer for you guys....but unfortunately they don't open on Sundays. Wish it was there as it is about a mile away from me! This is a little far tbh. Same day as Moat Inn as well! Good luck though, hope you guys have a dry day Bit far?? I'm travelling up shotgun from Bromsgrove in a 37 year-old Citroen Ami 8 with 602cc/29bhp of throbbing flat-twin under the bonnet, should take us half an hour. ;D Danny, I'll see you in the morning...I'm starving myself for the cholesterol onslaught. Safe journey to everyone making the trek. See you at The Hollies. ;D

45 years ago today, a legend was born. In late 1966, some interesting-looking cars were being tested at Ford's Boreham facility. One afternoon Ford Competition Manager Henry Taylor and Chief Mechanic Bill Meade were watching what turned out to be the first hand-built prototypes of the Ford Escort lapping the Essex airfield circuit. "Bloody hell" remarked one of them. "One of those would go like stink with a Lotus Twin-Cam in it" The initial plans were drawn up for an Escort Twin-Cam on January 25th, 1967 (hence the codename: Project J25). Less than twelve months later, history was made. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LEGEND!!!

From what I can make out this has been going on for a few years and is literally a 3 minute drive from where I live, yet I never knew, but yeah, there's a heads up for all you Rodders and Custom lovers. It's only recently moved to Raunds Town FC from its old home at Spedeworth/Incarace's Brafield Stadium just south of Northampton where it had been for years. That probably explains why you hadn't come across it before, buddy.

Just nine weeks away, ladies and gents.......so: . More details nearer the time, but mark it off in your diaries now. And a BIG thankyou from me to everyone who voted in the RR Awards. Couldn't quite believe it when i got a phone call from KFW this afternoon telling me that the Beach Party series had won 'Show Of The Year' in 2011. Thankyou all, but the real heroes as ever with gatherings like these are the people that show up to support it. That's you guys. See you all at the back-end of March. ;D

Give yourself an extra 15 minutes for your daily commute, sit in Astra at 65mph on motorway. A 1300 GM, even with a 4-speed bolted to it, will lap up work like that and probably do 35-40mpg as well.
I did 35 miles a day for weeks in a mechanically-stock twin-pot Citroen Dyane, including loads of 60-70mph motorway work. It'll be fine.

Octane were very positive about it as a driver's car. 0-60 in 5s, a twink that revs to 8k and 'sounds like a BDA', wrapped up in a luxurious package (leather, aircon, Harmon Kardon stereo, electric windows, extensive soundproofing, heated screens) in a 'B that still weighs a lot less than standard - can't be bad. They suggest that the sort of punter to spring £50k would be the kind of person who would feel awkward turning up to work in a look-at-me Porsche or Mercedes, so this provides the sporting/luxurious credentials and modern reliability/(relative) frugality in an aesthetic package that's commonly considered to be an everyman classic. And it costs about the same as you'd pay for a concours split-screen VW camper. But presumably that would be worth every penny, because it's wearing a VW badge and is therefore 'cool'. If I had 60 big ones spare right now I'd be signing up for a slice of modern-day Safety Fast in the blink of an eye.

I tried to make this look like a late 60's TV capture. Barrie 'Whizzo' Williams at Three Counties Showground, Malvern November 2010.
