A car named to coincide with the 1960 Games in Rome, the Rochdale Olympic is a car that deserves a few pics I think. With more money behind the company to promote the car in motorsport, it's name could have become far more revered. The company suffered a massive blow when a factory fire destroyed moulds and obviously caused financial strains too, which impacted on production. Well received by the motoring press at the time, the quality of the car was very much at the mercy of the home kit car builder though, which I'm sure didn't help it's reputation. A loyal club following, with many owners who have held onto their cars for years but somewhat overlooked by those without such long memories. A great British effort and so much potential that some of us are still hoping to realise.....

Cool, I think I may have a look around, either that or an Imp. Thinking that I may have a change from Triumphs for a while..... Haven't you literally just bought a Dolomite 1850?

My car is 50 this year and the RRG is the genuine goal for not just being on the road, but hopefully being an OOOFF trigger. Now an unfortunate no show. The car has a to do list as long as my arm, after a full inspection by an engineer. Things that will be expensive and a must have, including complete rewiring. It will be great when it's finished, but that won't be for a while.....

Find the guide written by your tyres manufacturer, there will be one. The tyre will have been type approved on wheels of certain sizes. Technically if you fit it on a wheel outside of their recommendations then its not road legal, however I think you would have to really annoy someone to get nicked for it. Personally I try to stick to or stick very close to what the manufacturer says is best. Thank you for a common sense, but bang on suggestion. Found all I needed here - www.toyo.co.uk/tire/pattern/proxes-t1-rand the good news is, it fits!

I have been reading about which width of tyre to fit to which width of wheel, and I am surprised to have come across a new guideline. you can find it written here amongst other places - www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible_pg4.htmlFor my example, you can choose a 195/50 15 tyre - it says you can fit to a wheel between 5.5" and 7" wide If you then just reduce the aspect ratio to a 45 - so 195/45 15 - it says you then need a wheel between 6.5" and 8" wide. Problem is, my wheel is 6" wide and the 195/45 gives me the rolling diameter I want. How seriously should I take this guide? I understand it is related to how much the sidewall can stretch on to the different rims, but not sure whether this is a rule that should be obeyed for safety or grip reasons, or it is just advice that can safely be ignored in this instace? What will the result when fitting a 195/45 to a 6" rim??

I think the stance vs. handling question is one of the most interesting to me personally so would also like this thread to get on track. I have been doing more and more reading on suspension geometry and how to make your car handle type stuff, but am no means an expert. I think the perfect balance between a good stance and a car that behaves itself well on the road, with fun but safe handling is what one day I hope to achieve. I'd love to see some articles the directly relate to this balance, normally stuff is skewed towards handling or looks only.

Tell us what is important to you in a car and you will get more responses. Budget Performance Space Reliability etc. There are a lot of knowledgeable, helpful people on here but without knowing more about you, and what you need the car to 'do', it is a bit too vague.....

Shocking design. Front overhangs are awful, those clocks look 15 years older than the rest of the car. The false vents along the front wings are in pretty bad taste too. I think this is a case of the design being appreciated now, because it is just so 1980's. You have to have very rose tinted specs to think it looks good.
So why do I like it? Dunno, but I do ;D

Thanks for this meaningful contribution to the discussion. I think what we're trying to do here is analyse beyond a lazy reaction to understand why some cars are more sought after than others. A scene is rooted in something, however cynical we can view it, there must be reason for the scene developing.
