So, there I was, moping about having to drive my daily chugger (which isn't retro at all) to CARS since my bug won't be ready, when I suddenly remembered what was sitting outside: Good points: It runs and drives (although the head gasket is a bit ) There's insurance for another month! Bad points:There's no tax or MOT. I'm short on funds. I can't make any insurance-affecting mods. (So no wheels or battering with the stick ) So, I had the brainwave of coming on here and seeing what you guys reckon. You're a pretty innovative lot, so it'll be interesting. My idea was satin nato green with various military style bits and bobs, complete with tongue-in-cheek 'kills' on the drivers door (crossed through Saxo badges, etc). I know it's been done before, but it isn't mega-common over here and the idea is budget cool. This can't be a mega-expenditure thing 'cos I'll only need it for a few days. Also no 'comedy' styling (bean tin exhaust tip, waste bin intakes etc) cos I will actually be driving this thing with non-petrolhead mates in.

Just ike me, see if you can suitibly tidy it for the MOT man on a budget, and check obvious stuff like tyres etc and see if it will get a ticket, MOT that is not speeding! try fit up for MOT, tax the mo-fo and drive it just like that. looks spot on, the race is on. good luck

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

That's my old patina Goof! I rescued that from a driveway in Nottingham then punted it on when I started racing. I couldn't believe how solid it was despite the amazingly crazed paint. How is it?

Paint, stick, black steels.

I think you should brush-paint the thing in silver hammer-finish hammerite.
Do a good job though, rub it down, take off the bumpers, doorhandles etc, maybe even pop the glass out, before painting. Then put all the trim back after cleaning it all up. Obv lower it a bit, some wider wheels wouldn’t go amiss either.
That would look class, not cost a great deal, and not look like some fuggin half-@rsed scrapyard fod masquerading as ‘ironic rat look’. Plus it would be much better at resisting rust in the future.

I know! I bought it off Adam (wizard) from VZi. He said it was yours when I went and got it. It's still in pretty good shape really - it's had bits and bobs done to it to get it through the MOT. Head gasket might actually be ok, it just swallowed a lot of water one time. I'll compression test it to see for sure. The MOT only lapsed because I stopped using it as my daily and couldn't afford to renew it. Still on the 1272cc HK, too. Did you put that in? Shame you didn't put a Weber on and give it a five-speed at the same time. ;D Paint, stick, black steels. Done. I'm up for that. I had an idea of how to get insurance-friendly stick for no money - bags of sand (or similar weight) in the boot and passenger footwell. Sorted!

Sorted! this kind of thing Not if they do you for using it for business as a builder! ;D might cost in fuel too. I have heard of Capri's etc putting sand over the axle to keep the rear end on the road.

Quick thought - do we reckon matt NATO green and bumperless would work?
I'm thinking of black steels and whitewall flaps too.

The engine was in it when I got it - I just saved it from the trip to the scrappy Top quality car, I liked that way the paint was appalling from so many touchups, fading, etc. but the car is still solid. It wins ;D

Thought I'd revive this Thread From The Dead just say it passed the MOT on Friday! Win! ;D Stupidly though, I can't find the insurance certificate so no tax as yet.......will the online one get delivered in time? NB: I have literally only Friday to paint both the car and its wheels.
