Hi All, I was scouring the likes of e-bay yesterday for a car for the banger run, and I came across this cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110660331239&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:ITAm I right in thinking these things were as fast as a Sierra Cosworth in a straight line but struggled with the cornering? When was the last time you saw something like this and in such good condition? Please someone on here buy it, it is fabulous ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png) Cheers, Stu.

I love Montego Turbos. Never driven one, but they were meant to be fast in their day - not sure about being faster than a Cossie... possibly!
I'd be pretty certain of that finding a good home, they have a strong following.

Not that fast, the press cars had the boost wound up, they were not slow though, my uncle had one, terrible torque steer and terrible build quality, looked ok in an all white body kitted kind of way, it needed enough expensive work after 3 years that he was quite glad when it got stolen and set on fire.
I think they look very dated now, but thats a plus point on here.

Volvo back as my main squeeze, more boost and some interior goodies on the way.

That video is brilliant!
Love how they say that each individual car gets "evaluated" (read ragged) around the Rover test track! Don't think that would go down too well today...

As a kid, I remember my grandpa had one of these, despite living on an incredibly remote scottish island that only had one road, 90% of which was single track with passing places and a grass strip down the middle. I doubt it ever get out of third gear. Rust killed it - it must have been really bad as the MOT was not applicable on the island due to lack of a test garage and it ended its days like many other retro cars that would make forum members here weep - being pushed off a cliff into the sea.

I used to work at the dealers when these were new didn't drive a turbo one but took a mg one down country once and the handling was shocking later model mg's got the turbo suspension but still weren't that good. I'd speak to malpas off here he's got a couple of these on his thread.

I had a 2.0i (not an MG), and it was by far the worst handling car I have ever driven. At the time I thought I'd got a duff one, but watching the one on the video bounce and understeer round that track I think mine was pretty much as Austin Rover intended it to be. But having said that, if it's good enough for The Saint it's good enough for me ![](http://www.smiley-faces.org/smiley-faces/smiley-face-halo.gif)

I had an MG Maestro with talking dash, only bought it to nick the twin carbs off it, talking dash and twin carbs on the same car would have made it worth a few quid these days i guess.

I had a drive in a turbo that was about 6 years old at the time. It was pretty quick for the time but not as fast as a Cossie!
As has already been said, they are great fun in a shonky sort of way! If I had some spare cash at the moment I would be tempted....

It was the Meastro turbo that had a 0-60 time that was the same as a 2wd Cosworth in the day. Same thing but lighter. Maybe handled better too. Did some the Montego turbo's come with a problematic digital dash??
