Perfect.
Last year I swapped my silver with black leather 1991 W126 300SE for a Lexus LS400 - BIG MISTAKE!
I would be happy to swap my W124 for another W126.
Good luck with it.

Thanks chaps It's certainly not perfect and has a few spots of tinworm here and there as it lived out it's first 20 years in Blackpool and Fleetwood. So the sea air has had its toll of some of the pipes in the engine bay. One of the gearbox coolant pipes sprouted a leak the other week so needs replacing. There was also a fair amount of surface rust on and around the spring perches and inner wings in the engine bay that have now been treated and painted with Por-15 and now need top coat. It also stank of wet dog when I first got it and had many dog hairs under the rear seat. A good clean and leather treatment has it smelling nice again You really can tell it's such low miles though as the engine and drivetrain are so tight No play whatsoever and no diff noise at all which plagues so many high mileage benzes of this era. It's just the utter over-engineering of these cars that gets me. Truly fantastic. The likes of which we will never, ever see again unfortunatly Utter LuxoBarge of which I am totally smitten with

Nice to see another on here. We could start our own forum, such are the numbers of W126 300SEs on here!
I'm deeply envious of your mileage by the way!

I love old Mercs, I have just bought a '97 C180 as a reasonable compromise to use every day. It has 86,000 miles on it and drives quite nice and should be fairly economical too, no visible rust apart from 2 very small stone chips on the 'A' posts just above the mirrors.

Lovely! What I especially like is that by looking at this it's really hard to determine the year this picture was taken in. Could be 1986, 1996, 2006... 2026 maybe? Makes you wonder: will they ever look "old"?

Makes you wonder: will they ever look "old"? Totally agree, 80s Mercs seem to be timeless. The W201, W124 and W126 will never look old IMO.

The headlight wiper blades on my S-Class were totally shot. Mercedes wanted £25 each for new ones and I simply couldn't find a source anywhere else to buy them from. As I had recently replaced my windscreen wipers with some aero blades I decided to use one of the old blades to replace the rubber on the headlight blades. First remove the old rubber from the blade like so. Using the old rubber, measure and cut a new blade from the windscreen blade. Slide the rubber into the metal blade. This can be a bit fiddly. Then do the same at the other end. This can be even more fiddly as the rubber is a tight fit. Now fit the metal strengthening slats. Very fiddly indeed. And there you have it, 10 to 15 mins work and the blades have nice new rubber. And I have saved £50 to put in the petrol tank. That should last me a day or two And yes, I know they need painting badly ;D Stu

Very nice car. My daily driver is an '86 500SEL and I love it! No regrets. Yours is a nice find, with such low mileage. John
