it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Congrats and best of luck with the job mate I think the blue is definately the way forward, I think it should be shiny as hell, and also incorporate the white roof Will you have time to get a bit of negative camber going on at the rear? That would rock. This is one of the top cars i'm looking forward to seeing this year.

Day 4Well, more sanding, flatting, filling sanding and flatting. Ive only got the bonnet and the roof to do now and its ready for primer, I'm hoping by really taking my time and getting it smooth now i can save time while its in primer, though its still going to need some work. anyway, sanding pictures are boring and inbewtween letting filler dry and just for a break i modded my snap off steering wheel! it came from an autograss micra and was another Ebay spectacular; i drilled it out so i could remove it from the micra shaft. problem is, it got a hex face and i didnt want to weld it on as it might not be straight and if the tracking was ever changed it would be wrong so...... i bored out the splined section from the factory steering wheel; i then turned it down on the lathe; Imade it a tight tolerance fit and added some araldite to be sure, then pressed it into the steering shaft end; now it can be bolted to the steering shaft using the origional bolt and can be adjusted on the splines - no welding! ;D I also knocked up a quick breather tank for the pug as i had an empty gunk tin and it keeps oiling up the idle control valve and fitted new front indeacators, since i smashed one hitting a tree on the last nav scat! and i was going to keep it all a bit secret until CARS but I'm Excited so; NEW BITSi also bought a go-kart seat but i don't think its going to work By now i started losing the plot and desided to pimp my bonnet my bonnet! l anyway thats progress stoped now until thursday, back to Swansea for a BBQ and get the rest of my stuff!

Absolutely ace ;D Amazing work. Nice bit of machining too, always gets me going! I fancy a big autometer gauge with shift light. Not sure if it'll suit my wood-and-leatherette interior mind....

Good work, look forward to seeing it!
Have you considered changing steering box to rack from a Starlet? I can vouch for the fact they feel really nice. Alternatively, I do have an ex-100A rack and column sitting in my garage, I'd imagine it should be a similar size set-up to what you've got.

Nice one. I just hope the araldite holds. ;D When I made the boss up for my monza (also using a steering wheel and boss from a micra ) I drilled the old centre to hold it with five bolts (micra boss held with four) and also welded the four arms from the old centre to the boss. Just to make sure it will never fail. I know how I drive so I wanted this to be the last bit that could possibly fail . This Plus this To make this And now this

Nice one. I just hope the araldite holds. ;D Yeah, i was a little skeptical, but it was a proper fit as in heat the outer and push it in with a hydraulic press. Ive bolted it up and ragged on it so hard i bent the wheel a little and had to straighten it! Its something ill keep an eye on and will prob change when i change to a proper steering rack. ;D Thanks again for all the comments guys, ill relax a bit when its painted but until then its 10 till 9 everyday i can! Spottedlaurel, ive not got as far as weiging up converting to a proper rack, though am aware it needs doing. Ill have a measure up as i don't really think there is anywhere for one!?

Excellent stuff Racer86! There's almost abit too much stuff in this thread for me to take in! All I can say is that your ability to do so much, to such a high standard in such a short period of time - leaves me with so much admiration - I only wish I shared yours & Mr Nightmares level of productivity & knowledge! P.S; How about beige or brown for the colour of the Starlet (two tone maybe?) P.P.S; Sounds like you've got my mate's old job - though I think his was less CAD based - he worked for a consultancy called Omnitech? Working at Landrover/Jaguar at Gaydon. Oddly enough he's now working in Germany for Ford - on the software support side of things for the CAD package you'll probably be using P.P.P.S; Navigational Rallies in the Tamworth area? I've a couple of mates who drive a rare 60s 997 Mini Cooper in such rallies around there - last year they binned it into a field & has bent the subframe

What was your mates name? i don't do any modelling myself with cad i just interpret them. The rally was in Swansea, i didnt know there was any in the Tamworth area - Tell me more!!! Cheers again for all the comments!!! you can slap me if its not at CARS!
