ok so technically s124 but you know what I mean
Well I was feeling a bit lacking in functional vehicles after my poor
santana went up in smoke, and my cortina is still far from sorted..
I had the offer of borrowing my dad's focus here and there.. but
it's a bit modern and functional for my tastes - give me something
older that moves and has a big old to-do list of fixes waiting any day :-)
I starting looking for something well built and practical, but still a little
old and weird.. (and older than 20 years to qualify for classic insurance)
and I saw this on ebay, and as of a few minutes ago I now appear to
be a posh mercedes owner!
rather than my last few ebay buys I actually went to check out
this car before bidding, and it looks entirely rust free, runs easy
and the owner seems genuine. It's been in a nice family 10 years,
bought from a mercedes dealer after the original owner sold it.
had a quiet life of school runs and yearly services from an independent
mercedes specialist with six monthly oil changes (according to the owner)
The initial idea was to get something basic and reliable, and save the
cash and attention for the cortina.. but i've already been thinking
about a bit of lowering, reusing some of the santana's sound system,
maybe hunt down some period amg 17" alloys.
I'm going to try to resist spending much on this till i've at least got the
cortina it's mot.. but i'm almost certain to fail in this and splash a little
time and cash on this old barge too
on the list of fixes -
torn driver's seat - tweed jacket style leather patch?
small scratch at the back (4cm)
few spots of rust in the middle of a panel (surface, solvent spill perhaps?)
dead spider in the speedo!
fuel gauge only works over 50%
full of dog hair
engine bay quite dirty. would please me to clean up!
oh and it's got the inline 6, 3 litre diesel engine and an autobox
so I wont be doing any drifting or track days in it :-) but maybe it
would be good to tow the cortina around when it breaks!
well here's the ebay pics, heading off to pick it up after work tomorrow
