got the new engine in on the sun of the bank holiday weekend. After my mate Larry came round and sorted a few electrical issues it ran like a dream! Still had the old problem with the electric tho, and yesterday he came over again. We ripped out the alarm which was causing all the problems, and started tracing all the wires to get it back to stock. 6 hours later and all the lights work properly, the windcreen wipers work, the washers work, the horn works, the brake lights work, and the hazards work. the only prob is the indicators which he has found the problem to be the switch. So, i need a new switch hazard switch, a few bolts to hold the indicator stalk in the column, new cv boots, a split pin in a tie rod and its ready for an MoT. Its booked on a ferry to le mans a week weds .... its gonna be close!

heres the new engine, you can see the driveshafts and old cv boots already removed too this was the mess of wiring at the start of the day, all the alarm ecu and bits were tucked up behind the glovebox. We must have halved the number of wires in the car yesterday! and heres how its currently looking. Once MoT'd, it will be slammed a little more, theres a black roofrack to go on, a load of 70's racing stickers and it'll be done

I like that, yes sirree.
It's something you don't see over here. I would have one though would probably put a Subaru engine in it being they're common as dog fecal matter over here and so parts would be easier for when (not if) the engine has a whoopsie.

that looks tough.... never really been a fan of the type 4, but in the right colour, with the right stance, and the right wheels it just looks, erm, "right".

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Just had a text from Keefy. Yesterday we were trying to work out why only one of the CV joints were rotating but the car wouldn't move.. Here's why.. He's off to get a new one!

that is indeed 'the larry'! also of restowagenuk and extremely low zwitter fame ;D Seth, the stickers came from some chap on ebay. i cant remember his name, but hes easy to find. its been one thing after another with this car .... got the cv joint changed and re-fitted, and then the jack gave up the ghost ... with the car on axle stands! arrrgghh. halfords were superb though, or at least they believed my line about it only being 10 months old and swapped it over for me with little bother. Got a load of other little jobs sorted, and also the interior in. It drives now, but gear selection is somewhat vague. New shifter coupling to go in today which hopefully might sort the problem. carpet makes such a difference!

keefy in da house: carpet makes such a difference!
Yeahhhh and takes away the focus from the "snake pit" electrical mess, I'm not the least envious of you having to "iron it out", looks like a nightmare but since you claim it works just leave it as is......

cheers for the compliments guys dp, the wiring is only like that cos none of us can a)remember when the fuse box mounts or b)see a logical place for it to go. Plus after all the electrical problems it makes sense for it to be easily reachable lol. Big thanks go to Larry for sorting that mess, i would never have had those electrics sorted without him! You can see a better pic of the steering wheel in this pic. It a 60/70 woodrim Momo, i got it about 4 years ago and have been dying for a car to put it on since! lol skodanorman, yeah there is loads of space above the engine. The back of the rear seats then fold down level with it so it forms a double bed in the back! Just been to get some gas for it, got a few things left to sort but I'm hoping to have it ready for an MoT by the end of today
