Tell me it didn't go with those wheels on it? Sorry for thread jack I had to keep them. I had thought about 5 studding my e30 touring daily just to have something to put them on! I could fit them to my Monza for a while

managed to get a little done today, it has really shown up the build quality on bmws! i'm used to messing around with smaller, cheaper cars that are a little simpler! everything seems so interwoven like trying to remove the pedal box, it has the steering column go straight through it! a pain would be an understatement! this is how i have left it and hopefully it will be out tomorrow!!

I actually prefer the tech1 wheels for some reason, I have a spare tech2 wheel if you want one in each... Give me! hmmmmmm, i'll have a little think about it/play about, not sure if i'm ready to let it go but as soon as i am you will be the first to know!

after a couple of days quiet i nipped up to the scrappy this morning found a gearstick surround that matches the 'wood' in the car, big pimp points! also got the foam and big rubber gromit that sit under it. black ashtray is for the black one came from e34 so will hopefully fit bit of metal pipe is for the clutch, managed to finally find a manual e34! i was beginning to think they didnt exist in my local area!!

right.............. 'wood' trim tested in place - if anyone has a blue gator that would be amazing, this gray one will do........ for the moment! proof that the car was MEANT to be a manual - little tab for the fitament of clutch lines, had a moment of worry when i thought it might not be there!! clutch resovior fitted - starting with the clutch assembly auto trim not suitable for a clutch pedal, no worries, the 'modifier' comes out! and getting there - and a 'moody' shot to finish you off for the night - anyone thinking of doing this conversion......... first don't do what you can buy! second don't believe anyting you read on the internet!! i had read that the whole pedal assembly had to be changed, this is not true! the clutch set up will bolt up to the framework as it is identical!! if i had realised this earlier it would have saved me a few hours!

its odd but the 7's are really nice cars very underated.ive just finished converting an e30 to manual and a job thats fairly straight forward on anything else seems to be made more dificult due to bmw putting something over the top of another part which seems to be fully interwoven by another third thing

Nice! Never done this swap on an M30 car, but kudos to you. It's always been a plan of mine to convert an E32 740i to a manual.
I take it you have the wiring ok? You have to ground one wire off of the neutral safety switch.. forget which one off the top of my head though (I have only converted an E36).
Not surte on Euro cars but I also recall having to change the ECU over.

Nice! Never done this swap on an M30 car, but kudos to you. It's always been a plan of mine to convert an E32 740i to a manual. that would just be insanely cool! i think the secret would be to use the 3.0 box from the 5 series. i think with the right research you could get all the parts from a standard bmw, i think you could make a hybrid prop to fit, if you ever get round to it send us a message and i will see if i can help with part identification! My dream is to convert an E38 740, i think that could be the coolest car ever!I take it you have the wiring ok? You have to ground one wire off of the neutral safety switch.. forget which one off the top of my head though (I have only converted an E36). Wiring from what i have seen is simple, its not as complex as the E36 thats for sure! i think it is only a single wire to short out. have to look into it further but luckily my black one has been converted so i can use that as a referance! Not surte on Euro cars but I also recall having to change the ECU over. not seen anything refering to this i'm hoping i will be ok with the standard ecu!!

well done - looks like a nice OE conversion ooooooo i'm only half way there, still got the gearbox itself (which i cant see being as much of a pain as the pedal box) I'm hoping to make it look as factory as possible, the gear surround was such a win for me even though i kinda hate it and think it is tacky it matches and therefore i'm chuffed with it!!

Problem with the E36s, at least over here, is that the 96+ cars are OBD2 (EOBD) and they require reflashing of the computer once you do a conversion. As I am sure you've found out almost all of the parts to do this conversion can be snagged from an E34 as well, that's what I am planning on doing one day with an E32 740i, find a nice one with a dead transmission (Not too hard to do) and use everything from an E34 530i 5-speed. Then you need a driveshaft from an E32 730i V8 manual. The E38 swap has been done, I did one back in 2003 or so, but never got the electronics to work properly. Guy I know over here has a supercharged 97 740iL with a 6-speed, and the engine has been built to take boost. I have driven the car, it's unreal, and I have a 97 740il! www.vacmotorsports.com/projectsDetail.php?recordID=2Read that. www.cardomain.com/ride/140822/1997-bmw-7-seriesand that. The car is an evil screaming monster... IMO the baddest 7 series of all time

that E38 is just insane! one day................ well, tiny update really, working makes it hard to get much done but........... transmission cooling lines removed - rad cooled autobox is a new one on me! (saying that all my autos have tended to be a bit older!!) old diff out - new diff having mounts fitted- getting the diff out was a pain! Mainly as i am little and weedy, it weighs a lot and i have about a foot and a half at most of space under the car. the propshaft is all unbolted and is pulled back out of the way of the autobox but hanging on the exhaust. The box itself is just left with a couple of bolts to crack off before i can slip it off. sadly light has seemed to call a halt to progress today and i think its about time for my monthly bath after getting transmission fluid over my hand which seems to have made it glow bright green!!

That E38 is insane, it's also had insane money thrown at it... Wish I had the cash to throw at mine!
I forget if these have the trans cooler intagrated into the radiator or if it's a separate radiator that screws to the engine rd like on an E36,,,
What ratio diff are you running?

Cheers rob! Would be a lot easier if I had a pit like yours!!
Trans cooler is intergrated in the rad, worried that it might run a little cold without the heat of a box flowing through it? My black one has a rad 2/3 the size of this one and is spot on.
Black one has a 3.64 LSD and the White one has a 3.91 destined for it. Going to be interested to see how the White one performs as it's more of a road car so I don't want anything too insane!

well progress has been made! its not massive but it is still a step in the right direction! took a visit to bmw for a bulkhead grommit, at 97p i wasn't going to bother to crack out the discount!! feels good to get the right part rather than bodge in another grommit! clutch came - and i fitted the doo-daa to the gearbox shaft release bearing? i'm useless with names for stuff!! and the main result of the day - this is how it sits at the moment on a jack! after starting work at 6 this morning its been a long day and i don't want to wrestle that weight out from under the car when i'm tired (i am only weedy!) I have got the day off work tomorrow so i can attack it fresh in the morning!

Not to be pedantic, but I have a few pieces of advice.. Before you fit the manual trans, watch what brand the pilot bearing that goes into the engine is, there's some aftermarket ones out there that are chinese and they are garbage. Ask me how I know Also the clutch release arm bushing, don't use the plastic one, order one for an 850csi, it's metal instead of plastic and lasts forever. Not sure about Europe but the cost difference here was like $3 instead of $1. IIRC the retaining spring from an 850csi is also heavier duty.

checked the bearing, it seemed much better quailty than the part it was replacing so hopefully it should be ok! my parts suppliers are usually pretty good, on first name terms with them well, update pics will come tomorrow, got a little bit done today, had my buddy andy pop up (without his help i would have been more than stuck!!) short of it is there is now a manual gearbox bolted to the engine! still waiting on a center bearing for the prop and a couple of pathetic bits but if progress goes well it should be done in a couple of days! ;D on thing that is getting me stuck is..... the gearstick linkage! does the back of it fit into anything? at the moment its only attached to the box, does it attach anywhere else? i know its hard to explain without pictures but any help would be appriciated!! in other news, the white 7 came with a buckled style 5, i won't go into the whole story but i will confirm that rob0r is an honest seller and it was nothing to do with him!! So after looking for a single wheel for ages (and seeing them go for £200 odd on fleabay) i have just forked out on a whole set ;D mega excited about their arrival, they will be destined for the black one as they are seemingly black in the center! and they are staggered fittament so they should look spot on!!
