If you don't want to buy a valve spring compressor I have one you can borrow if you want? It's easy to do, and rebuilding a head is an excellent, satisfying and easy job on the kitchen table. Don't forget to give it a quick spray of silver paint when it's done, it makes it look new!

As you doubted the cambelt originally you should replace it now...don't want it failing!

ordered a pump as soon as I got home and will be booking it in for a belt and waterpump this week I always assume the worst when a car breaks down, years of owning aircooled vws has done it to me, whats that noise ? probably some loose tinwear, ah no, it's the crank eating into the case :/
