Just studying those pics and then I suddenly noticed the ruddy great spike sticking out the front!!! Looking at the pics, they are very slightly different, the shut lines round the front and the number of grilles on the front, the one with 3 grilles does have a piggy quality to it ;D a bit "tubs" from league of gentlmen. But great concept! Would make a great camper, with a lot of curtains 23 window samba eat ya heart out!!!

Remember the days when sex was safe and motorsport was dangerous. Vintage bling always attracts pussy.

That is literally fantastic! What an amazing bus! I can only imagine how hot it would get if parked in the sun though...

It looks like it should be amphibious. Maybe the spike is something to do with tying it up when it's moored Why does the woman in the roof-open pic have a kitchen roll on her head?

What an incredible thing. Looks awfully cosy on the upper deck... In the ideal society in my mind, all buses now look like this, weaving in and out of the GM Futurliners making their deliveries. ;D

ooooo thats well smart!!! Citroen designing quirky vehicles, so out of character bet the design floor was a fun place to be in those days. Designer: I drew this sketch in an excerise book at school, just wondered what it would look like in design form Management: build it! we'll work out the problems later.....

Had I not seen the description I would have thought that it was made for a movie, then I saw Citroen and realized that it made total sense.

It's ace huh? I first saw these pictures on Chris's (utterpiffle) website scrapingscrap.com years ago, I properly love it. There was a large article on these in the Jan/Feb 2011 issue of Citropolis magazine... Which conveniently I have in front of me. In the absence of a scanner I'll see what I can translate. The first Cityrama (which is the first one pictured with the single grille) was built for a Parisien tour operator called Jean-Louis Dubreuil in 1955, going into service around about June of that year... Which is pretty crazy looking at the design, I would have expected those pictures to be a lot later huh? Anyway, it was built on a Citroen Type 55 chassis which was fitted with a newly launched six cylinder motor. I can't tell whether it was diesel of petrol though. Saint Gobain the glass manufacturer took care of the see through bits and as far as I can tell there was a lot of alloy used. The pictures of the front end with three grilles in it are from after a face lift in 1958, this is referred to as Cityrama II, so maybe a second bus? Hang on, now it looks like it went in to service in March 1956, so maybe it was commisioned and work started in June 1955. What I can tell is that there were simple voice playing machines of some sort next to each seat where you could select one of eight languages to guide you in. Nice As you can tell my French is pretty hit and miss, I once got a verbal warning from the Gendarmes, and thought they were warning me about an advert... Carry On translation Citroen weren't the only people to make Cityrama buses, Volvo had a go too, but it seems they were all kind of boring after the originals... Still around today...
