Prototypes always interest me, they're a glimpse of what might have been. Looking at the prototype Reliant sportscars got me thinking about them, so I thought I'd post up a few random pics of what we might have been drooling over / building in our heads / hitting with "The Stick" had they not been canned.... ^ Triumph Dolly/Tolly replacement. ^ Yugo Euro 2000. Apparently their car for the new millennium... ^ GAZ Volga S-3111. Made in 2001 as a "maintenance free" car ^ Chrysler Avenger Coupe - their challenger to the Capri. ^ A 4-door Imp?! Rootes Swallow, with rear engine. ^ Simca Projet 929 ^ Golf prototype, apparently with aircooled engine (my GCSE French let me down on the translation here.... ) ^ MR2 styling exercises Does anyone have any more?

^^^ Hehe, yeah maybe we had a lucky escape from the SD2... Here's some pics of what got me thinking about prototypes, shamelessly lifted from the sporting-reliants website... ^ The FW7, which apparently pre-dates the Fiat X1/9 by a couple of years. Yet again it was canned due to Reliant not having any decent engine to put in it ^ Bertone styled 4-door. Looks a bit too much like a BX to me... ^ MG-F Prototype by Reliant. Based on the SS1 chassis, it was rejected by MG Rover for being RWD. And for being a bit fugly.

The first Imp, the 'Slug' designed in the mid 50's. Then the 2nd Imp, the 'Apex' KS1003 Imp 'Asp', prototype of the propor Imp sports car.

benzboy in da house: PrototypesOhhhh how I would like to cruise in a Volvo VESC with those ultra cool JP rims, dream boat!!!!! Must be one of the ugliest prototypes ever.... The Vector W8 001 on the other side of the spectrum, one of the most impressive cars in modern time, the 001 prototype is a car I know quite well and have spent som time behind the wheel of and even been involved with some photography of and I just love it.... DP says: Both angular and there's some commonality in both......

If only.... ADO (?)68, a Marina coupe prototype. Don't get me wrong, I love the normal Marina coupes, but this would have been great. Especially if the front wings stayed solid and attached!

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts
