pic of your line up at wheels day in custom car this month! and with their feature of the anglebox the other month it appears custom car is opening its eyes to the modified retro world!

I noticed a mention that retro fords are popular, but never would be described as an 'old' Ford at an Hot rod show!
Didnt see the pics in detail, apart from the OSF vans

Gave up reading CC a while back.... I used to love it when Tim Baggaley (sp?) was in charge, encouraging people to slam Corsairs / Mk1 'tinas etc. An issue from about '94 inspired me to get an HC Viva as my first car - there was a purple one on the cover! And Ric Nicholls' PB Cresta was QUALITY.
Just a few motors like that would see me subscribing again...

Not sure about this new editor, the mag seems ok at the mo but he's not a hotrodder himself so I'm not sure what the content is going to lead to eventually.

Rich Nicholls PB was covered by Street Machine. Quite true! He started building it while at CC... They did a series on getting started in "hot rodding", and the PB was used for plenty of pics on buying / welding up old motors. By the time it was finished, the build went in SM IIRC.

CC has always had Angleboxes and 100Es in it. They have also featured Corsairs and Mk1 Cortinas in recent years. The also seem to have done a few Mk3s, but only if its V8'd Whether they will move to more modern stuff in there I dunno, as its outside of the traditional age range of cars which are core to that scene. The only more modern stuff you see in there is the pure drag stuff. CC caters to a market which is specifically into a certain scene and they get hate mail about some stuff they run already...

/\ That seems a shame. I stopped buying CC for precisely those reasons, reading drag reports is a complete yawn-fest. Can't they do other stuff as well as what they already cover? Whenever I pick up a copy it always seems very light on actual feature cars.

Well this brings us back to the deabte about niche magazines. CC do plenty of reader surveys, panels and all that to find out what people want. And plenty of people want lots of drag racing coverage. Its like complaing theres classic rally coverage in Classic Ford. Theres a bunch of people who only buy CC for its drag racing coverage and nothing else...

Off the top of my head thats fine thats the scene. weather it will live on forever, die, or diversify, i'm not so sure at all. Its a small mag so i only buy it if theres something specific in it or it full of good stuff, if i can find a copy. Theres loads of other people doing drag now, such as the performance J lot, quite a new school way of doing it. and don't forget bodydrop's Nova

Probs not, Its just interesting how other scenes are trying it out with astounding results. maybe they compete in the above events, i'm not so sure.

I kinda like CC, theres always something interesting in there. I don't like the drag reports, doesn't interest me, but I do like their show reports, and the feature cars can be quite diverse- They've featured a Fiat marifiori, metro's, montego's, capri's and cortina's right alongside the 'traditional' hot rods which is all I could ask for in a magazine. Hope the new editor will keep it relatively diverse. F

Yeah definately!* We're going back a few years now, but the Fiat marifiori was black with a twin cam, some sort of big old spoiler on it.... The Metro was white, a mk1, cant remember much about that, and the Montego was british racing green. The Monty was many years ago, i was trying to dig it out recently but i definately don't have it anymore *There is the chance that it was Street Machine and not Custom Car!

Didn't CC build a horrific mk1 Fiesta at some point in the early 80s?
