Hi
my scirocco scala has just been granted a 12month mot and taxed for 6 months this morning so i think it is time to put it up for sale, (advert coming soon in the clasifieds.)
i now am on the lookout for something with retro soul for some sideways fun. i had a 2ltr twink sierra last year and a 924 before that so after some suggestions.
thinking: 190e 2ltr manual volvo not sure on mpg's for daily ect
so please feel free to educate me and get me ready for some new motoring
looking at max 1k budget

£700 for my 190e 2.0 5 speed manual, maybe open to offers! Weld the diff, cut the coils and it should be good to go Plus its pretty pimp!

i had a volvo 360 2.0 GLT (pas etc) and swaped it for my 190e 1.8, much prefer the 190. better as a daily as its nicer to drive and better on fuel, and with the right tyres can slide just as well.
other suggestions would be a mk3 supra or a trampy BMW, maybe an MX5.

i am thinking the 190 what are they like on fuel around town most of my commute is driving to work through town stop and start traffic.
is the 2ltr pokey enough when it needs to be?
are they easy to lower? and easy to chuck about sideways?

Well ive had alot of people saying I'm bull shitting but according to the fuel gauge i managed 38.5 MPG on a run from Wales to Portsmouth, around town i expect that to be around 28 though? Althought i havent really used it enough to quote for sure. I think it should be pokey enough! It seems pretty docile and comfortable whilst driving around town but when you do give it some it does move! They have HUGE steering lock, which is good for drifting, means good angles People seem to hate chopped springs, but i have heard they do run alot better on chopped springs, but lowering springs are available, as far as I'm aware you cant fit coil overs though.

2lt will give about 23-32mpg. town driving expect about 26ish. its ok on power but a little lazy as ud probably expect.
pretty easy to chuck sideways providing u set it up to do so, otherwise it will grip the corners pretty well.
lowering is easy enough, a set of lowering springs off GFS are about £80 i think and u can always chop them.

MPG's ain't to bad if you don't rape it everywhere. I get better MPG outa my 190 2.0 than I do my Diesel Maverick !! Mine is easy to provoke sideways in the wet with a healthy slam, 17's and low pro tyres.
Mr. Hardcore is building a 190 driftwhore IIRC so I'm sure he could give some more tips

i like the sound of this then. i like the low look on 15/16 also will help with cheaper tyres in 15" for some private land skidding. is the gear box too long for town driving ect?

BMW E30! Cheap, common, strong - perfect drift cars, and they started back in 1983 so definitely retro! The 325i touring above I bought for £500 with T&T, lowered suspension welded diff, 2 sets of wheels + more. A 318is or 325i would be the better ones to go for.

Try and get an S12 Silvia. There's a nice one for sale on S12OC for £750. This is in Colchester, Essex, don't know where you are.
You can get 200bhp out of these with some scrap yard intercoolers etc. Could be a good car with a grand budget

Volvo 360 had one didn't get on with it personally, tail happy and good steering. But slow, unreliable and mine suffered from horrid fuel surge issues! Sierra 2.0, E30 325 and MX5 all good choices. All make good dailys and are cheap 'n' easy to fix/modify. (sierra are my personal favourite ;D) Or if you feeling the GM love Carltons and Senators? Or maybe even an Omega (too modern?). I love mine, great skid bus........

Sierra - here we go again! He has an illness, it's not his fault.

I'd have one of these:
E30 325i E36 325i E34 535i Omega/senator 2.5+ Volvo 940/960 2.3 turbo
Bit of a trend? Something with a big engine = good.

Mr. Hardcore is building a 190 driftwhore IIRC so I'm sure he could give some more tips Yes indeed! ;D Tips.. Hmm.... Ok sure, maybe not what you're expecting tho..! Cheap sideways fun you want? Get an E30. Or a Sierra. Parts are cheap (unlike a Mercedes) Will skid ok from stock (unlike a Mercedes) but easy to slam & weld the diff (unlike a Mercedes) Easy bolt-on upgrades from 'sportier' models (unlike a Mercedes) Bigger engine swaps are easy enough (unlike a Mercedes) I could go on but I think you get the gist Don't get me wrong, I love my Benz and when it's (finally) done I reckon I'll be awesome but it's been one hell of a slog & has cost a decent chunk more than I thought it would. If I had the chance to start all over again I'd probably do exactly the same thing, but I'm an idiot

i like my e30 325 touring. stripped out 2 seats welded diff, still a great daily and easy to live with (other than fuel), easy to fix and strong engines, cant wait to add my LPG system nice and economical then.
