okily dokily, I going to be making a tuber bender for making a roll cage, in amoungst some other stuff. I've been looking into a laod of tube bending designs, and all well and true but the forming quardrants aint cheap. I've devised a plan on how I'm going to make a former, ulitlising 2 brake disks, some 4mm/3mm rod, a curse word rasp file and the rear hub of my car. Now I only need a third of what I'm building, but ease of making I have to make it as a whole piece, so is anyone else in the same boat as me and would like either of the 2 spare sections? for those not clued in yet ist basicly this bit I'm offering but for 1 5/8ths tube, simmilar off the shelf for this size is £180, £25 to anyone who wants one. if your interested pm me, as I'll be making this sometime in the coming week.

Good luck with this. I have a Clarke 10Tonne tube bender and couldn't get any proper bends with it...till I got my local machineshop to remachine one of the formers to specifically suit my 38mm CDS. Now the bends come out real good.I have one of the best fitting (bodyshell hugging) rollcages I've seen (IMHO)

I've got formers up to 3" and at that size they are around £150 EACH ! Paul H

Interested to see how you tackle this, keep us updated with pics/progress on the formers and the bending machine, I love a home brew that does the job for a tenth of the money :-)

You don;t need to spend £1000 for a bender or do you need a 50 ton ram. You can either buy a bender here www.stakesys.co.uk/or just buy the Pro tools dies there and build this bender www.gottrikes.com/Tube_Bender.htm by buying his plans for $18. I build the gottrikes bender and it bends perfect 180 bends in 1 5/8" and all I am using is an 8 ton ram. OK it is more expensive than what you are planning & I know where you are coming from with wanting to do it yourself so best of luck to you - I would have a similar approach a lot of the time but I am time poor so sometimes I find it is better to just sheel out for the proper job.

I'm the same, time poor, but my hobby is making stuff, so I just consider it as part of the hobby.
