Hi
As some of you know, I've had some problems with the council and cars at my property.
Well......
Met with the woman from Planning today, she was half hour late for our appointment
She's looked round the house, and there is NO PROBLEM with the current state of things.
But she said this.
If you have a garage, you should have clear access to it, at present we have a small trailor in the way (we are building a hard stand out front to store the trailor on, which will be surrounded by low level bushes to keep it from view.
Same applies for a shed.
If you are working on a vehicle in public view, i.e. not behind an enclosed area, such as a gate or in a garage, the public are entitled to complain, but only if this is persistant work, so no resprays or engine out jobbies (which I can agree with!), even if it is on your own property.
An A series engine is not a garden feature ;D, I explained that I was awaiting collection of that item.
Tools, such as garden tools, should be kept in the shed unless used, same applies for building tools such as cement mixers, (we are doing a garage roof, two wood benches, some timber and saws are visible in my garden at present.)
Basicly she spent all of 3 mins nit picking, then left with her tail between her legs.
Obviously there was no evidence of un-authorised vehicle repairs, and some evidence of an untidy site (well landscaping and doing a garage roof does tend to be messy, but you need to attack these things!).
Un authorised repairs include the repairs of friends or family vehicles on your property unless these are "emergency repairs", i.e. it broke while visiting or the rad split and they were passing, so popped by to get it looked at.
Well that's OK, as all my cars are just that, my cars , so the beetle stays at Chateau Cappuccino for the time being, as does the XJS (its in the garage, the beetle behind a large gate, so away from prying eyes!)
The beetle will be moved to another site soon while I get the engine in the van (behind that gate, so no one can make complaint there either!!!)
I can do what I like to my cars on property provided I keep noise down (well goes without saying!) and confirm to environmental laws (which I've always done!).
If we all do the same, there really isn't a lot the "powers that be" can do, she basicly came, took a look, realised there was no wrong doings going on, told me to tidy up some of the bits (where we are repairing and landscaping) and went back to her office.
She does require, in writting from me, confirmation I do not work on other peoples cars, and a list of cars that I keep at the property (this changes, so she'll get a lot of emails from me as and when I chop between what is in use and what is stored!).
