whats everyone upto in their workshops today?

sod all lol, decided not to go in today as saturday isnt an official open day and i need to catch up with my ebay

Spent this morning getting my Hyundai Pony pickup going so I could move it out the way then got my ancient tractor going after it's winter lay-up.

This afternoon it's a quick tidy of the workshop then I'm going to start flatting down some primer on my Dodge ready for a bit of paint around the door shuts.

picked up a fiat sicento to do the tappets on, then found a 3" crack in the block dumping water out and a knackered bottom end. Owner hasn't got the cash to sort so i'm out of pocket and the car gets crushed.

like the OP, i've been trying to build my own business as a mobile mechanic but with a rented single garage for shelter when needs must. Tbh it costs me more than i make (van, insurance, diesel, rent, tools, national insurance, tax etc etc etc) and despite advertising all over the local press (£60 p/week) and yellow pages (£375 p/annum) its bloomin' difficult to attract new business around here. Jobs like the one i described tend to be the norm, ie people can't afford a tow to their usual garage so call me to go to them. i go and present them with a very reasonable estimate (£30 p/h and parts at trade cost) and because its not £20 like some bloke down the pub can do it for they aint interested.

my main work is at a dealership, i was there 4 hours today and did 1 MOT. Dead as a dodo.

if my dodge was back from the auto box guys, i'd have been tuning that up.
