my first mistake was buying a 12month tax disc that starts tomorrow. my second was gettting some speakers that work off ebay. the third was trying to make it a happy car by finishing the service i'd started 100 miles ago. yesterday i decided to change the air/fuel/oil filter. to cut a long storey short, getting the fuel filter to stop leaking cost me about £5 of fuel and 3 hours of my like (ended up heating old copper washers and useing lots of force). then a hose split and it started p*ssing water out, but it was late so that was a job for today. today i did the hose. i cut the bad bit off and put it back on. then it cracked again so i did it again. then i changed the twin fans and had a go with the temp switch and fan switch but gave up. this took far longer than it ever should've done. btw, what does everyone make of rover 825's (c reg)? my dad's got a free one. i need something reliable to take me to france.

Is this the bitchmobile or the Sierra? C reg 825 has to be "retro" by now. When was the last time anyone saw one? Saloon or hatch? Swap you for a Vauxhall Midi van when you get back with it?

A C reg 825 must be a VERY early one as they were not launched till August 86, so could be very interesting. The only C-reg's I have ever seen were in the launch issue of Autocar! Not a good recipe for long-term reliability though.... the 2.5 was quickly changed to a 2.7 when it was found to be a bit gutless and prone to seizing up!!!1.

They have MAJOR brain issues - ie engine management. They go pop and nothing works. And try finding one... especially one that works.

Hmm, not so sure about that - its all honda tech in there and pretty reliable. Plus the ECU has a built-in fault code reader under the drivers seat. Normally the engines are ticking over a treat long after the interior and bodyshell have fallen apart.
I believe those 2.5 engines are mechanically a bit fragile however.

if theres something up engine management wise, you can decode it yourself by counting the flashes on the red LED under the drivers seat to tell you which bit has gone on the blink.
Its great tech, for example if the crank position sensor goes up the pipe (usually pretty fundamental) there is another position sensor in the dizzy which takes over! you lose 2mpg and the light comes on, otherwise you would never know.
Economical too, I could get 30mpg out of mine no probs. Best ever was 36mpg.

wow, D-reg is still very rare, and ERW is an old coventry reg I think, where ARG used to register all their demonstrators, press cars etc. It might have an interesting history. Looks in good nick too! I havent got a lot of money to spend on such a car but these things are invariably one step away from the scrapyard, if he wants rid let me know.

Wasn't the reliability issue due to the relatively small waterways in the block and head getting all crudded up? I know the Stag suffered that problem, but I may be super-imposing that thought onto this car and may have got that well wrong! anyway, good servicing and using good quality coolant/correct mix is the best prevention in any case!
Awesome cars, have it! ;D

i had a Corgi model that looked exactly like that definately retro-tastic, if only for the 'hal' computer and rarity..... hardly see any 800's apart from the dead-horse-flogging facelift models now.
