Ok guys, project Penguin is for sale
Very briefly the reason for sale:
Way back when I wanted to get back into dubs I bought a Mk 2 Passat, wasn’t really my thing as I really wanted a caddy, searched for a good while and Simmonds off here was selling this, a deal was done through Ebay and in November 2010 I was the new owner, I was chuffed but deep deep inside wanted a dirty diesel and didn’t really like Red as a car colour (I know these can all be changed) but last week I saw Ultravoilent’s ad, a few PM’s back n forth and I’ve stuck a deposit on it. So that’s why I’m selling, not because mine is a rot box or anything sinister like that.
Ok, about the car:
It appears to be a very unmolested MK1 Caddy with a standard 1.6 petrol engine.
It starts and runs great, I’ve left it a good few weeks over the snowy period and it started 1st time no problems
4 speed box and none of the gears feel “difficult” to select
Interior is in good shape too, dash is not bashed around and no cracks in it either
Door cards are in good shape
Windows and screen again in good shape with no cracks.
Driver door lock and ignition are same key (I had a spare cut) passenger one doesn’t turn so its either a different lock or may be just seized ??
It has some unknown 16” alloys on it, not my cup of tea but ALL have good tread so could get you by if needed
Leather seats, driver one is OK, passenger one ideally needs stitching or recovering (they were only a fiver so cant grumble!!)
Bodywork:
I’m no expert here so have taken A LOT of pics to hopefully illustrate usual problem areas.
Inside the cab, the inner sill on the passenger side near the footwell is a 20p size hole.
Other than that I can’t see any real concerns anywhere else, yes its had sill repairs and rear arch work but it seems to be holding up well, the pics should tell you what you need to know though.
The bed is also in good shape, two 2-3” square repair patches, not done for scene points I imagine but got the job done at the time, all it really needs is a few hours on the grinder to get rid of the surface rust.
All the panels look in good shape, the front wings are painted but not laquered.
Doors are also in good shape, bottoms have a little inside rust on the corners
The obvious drawback to this sale is the fact it has no MOT or Tax
I can say it drives, starts stops an brakes just like any other caddy I’ve had. I cant say what it will or wont need for the mot but I’d be genuinely surprised if it was a lot.
The engine has little more than the last recorded mileage in March 2005. I don’t know if its had test after that but I couldn’t find anything on the Gov MOT website ??
It has a good bit of service history from the late nineties to 2005 all from the same garage, who also took care of the mot’s. It also has the mot’s for this period to back up the mileage.
All in all it’s a solid little caddy, I’ve seen a lot lot worse for more money !!!
There is no tailgate with it and the chrome front bumper and script badge on at the moment are going on the new one, so it will come with standard plastic bumper (the only downside is I had the bumper irons modded to fit the chrome one so it will need a pair of standard bumper irons)
Guess most importantly the price…………£550
This is exactly what I want for it, its not there to haggle or bargain (I'm not being shirty at all there just trying to let serious people know what they’ll have to pay) this figure is what I have paid out, well more like £600 tbh but like I say £550 is the minimum I will take.
It’s in Doncaster for any viewings, I work funny shifts so please ask, I’ll prob be around when you least expect it haha
There’s a thread on here on a few issues I’ve discovered, one being a leaky cab (don’t they all) the obvious points are behind the bulkhead and the screen channel. Its not bad its just that its there so please be aware of that.
It will come with the original (cleaned & dried) carpet for when the water issue is resolved.
Sure there is more but feel free to ask for any other pics, ive got quite a few more if needed.
Jimbo off the forum has seen this in the flesh, feel free to pm him for a non bias view on it.
Thanks
(btw I’m collecting ultra’s caddy next week so really do need a quick sale, if I’ve had no interest on here in the next few days its going to the sharks on ebay, sorry !!!!)
grrr, how thoroughly annoying !!! sat in Mc'ds trying to load the pics onto PB because my internet is playing up and its not letting me. fingers crossed pics will be up later today or 2moro
thanks
