I see that Bstardchild has a Lotus Carlton Obviously this is a serious serious car, but how does it comapre to the mighty Audi RS2 Which one would you have? I almost wet myself over the LC when it was announced and it seemed like a car that you could never ever own. Same with the RS2. I think I spent an afternoon in an Audi showroon scraping my tongue all over a silver one until the staff kicked me out. Well, now both these cars are "affordable" - ish. I'd love an LC but I think I'd kill for an RS2

Carlton for me. More "british". Not that that matters. TBH I wouldn't have either, I'll have a MG ZT260 when they are done depreciating. Mmmmmm V8 Goodness

You do hear stories of Carltons breaking down and being off the road for months waiting for spares, while the word most commonly hear around RS2's is bullet proof.
I'm guessing that neither is actually cheap to keep on the road though.

Can I be awkward and ask for one of these? Autech's Skyline GT-R saloon. I'd actually rather have the R32 GT-R saloon they also did, but quick googling drew a blank on that.

RS2 definitely, absolutely love them! Don't they still have the quickest 0 - 30 time of any production saloon or something?

RS2's currently around £12,000 for a genuine RHD car with history.
Yes they are both a lot but not compared to what they cost new and for what you get for the money. Especially when you can spend that on a new Fiesta!

I class sub £1000 as affordable anything more is extravagant Yeah £10,000 is expensive, for a second hand Ford Focus, £10,000 for a second hand LC or £12,000 for an RS2 sounds like a bargain.

btw
to compare
Carlton
Top speed - 176 mph Peak power - 377 hp @ 5200 rpm Acceleration - 0-60 mph: 5.2s Peak torque - 419 ft·lbf Engine displacement - 3615 cc Engine type - Twin turbocharged six-cylinder Configuration - Front-engined, rear-wheel drive Transmission - Six-speed ZF manual Production - 950 Price - £48,000
RS2
engine Turbo Inline-5 valvetrain Twin Cam, 4 Valves / Cyl displacement 2226 cc / 135.8 cu in power 234.9 kw / 315.0 bhp @ 6500 rpm 0 - 60 mph 4.8 seconds 0 - 100 mph 13.1 seconds 0 - 1/4 mile 13.6 seconds
So the carlton tops out faster but accelerates slower. The Audi does 0-30 in 1.5 seconds, which was faster than a Formula one car at the time of launch!!

I think I prefer the Lotus Carlton - it has a bit more character I think, but as a rather timid chap I don't think its large, imposing shape would suit me. However I could imagine owning the Audi. Ironically here's a fresh 'spot' from the ace Cafe last night.... Running Dharlback ECU map apparently + some other impressive engine upgrades
