Continuing from the vast pages of GFP's wheel discussion, I think that Compo ML's and these in 15" or more look great on Mk1 Escys. This one looked even better in the flesh in 2004 not seen it since mind. They also look ok on Minis Surprisingly. And with a bit of dish some other retro applications discuss

Rims on that escort are waaaay too big IMO. Makes it look like a bad hotwheels toy or something.

Was thinking that myself from the pic. I guess they might be 17's, But on the day it stood out and looked well smart. I chatted to the owner and got his number, i looked behind me and Simon Wooley was ready to chat to the dude too!

There's something about big rims on 60's and 70's cars I just don't like. I think it's because the profile of the car is altered by the arch to tyre line being in a different place.

It's just one of those things really, for some of you, the hated wheel is minilites, for me in NZ, I'm not a fan of Hotwires, Turbos, Tridents and Modgies.
Seemingly Tridents (what you chaps refer to as "slot mags") as very popular and liked over your side of the ball, the same is over here, but to me it's to a point where it's painful because every other car has them, or at least, used to.

slot mags are coming back baby. I love 'em. ARE have started making them again, but only in limited sizes and fitments (Ansen clones). ARE are also remaking the Vector as well

Good to see the other side of the coin/planet there kyteler, not sure what some of your examples are but see what yo mean. I love slot mags but if they had a massive come back i'd go off them a bit and i see that with minilite type wheels. MLs are may faves of this type (or those konig rewinds that bluebird chap has) I had a CF poster with a MK1 on ML 15's for a couple of years on my wall while at uni and i still think it looked sexy, and has subconciously had a hand in the cars and bits i've chosen since. two for GFP yes yes yes!

I'd be like a millionaire now! & a multimillionaire if you'd also brought a Split Screen VW van with lots of windows ;D Minilights do look really good if they are suitably wide & dished - polished lip for the win! They are not offensive in smaller width sizes - just abit boring perhaps, but they are a style that will suit any old car without looking at odds or out of keeping like some alloys can.

Minilites rarely look right IMO, Superlites always look good - unless they've got more than 8-spokes, Konigs are only available in good sizes and offsets so always look right and Watanabes work if they have dish. That is all just my opinion of course!

That is all just my opinion of course! You saying that because of the more angular spokes on genuine Minilites? Remember reading that this helped air onto the brakes. In the 70's there was a road version of the Minilite made from alloy, had ribs in/around the centre of the wheel. There's been plenty of copies over the years - GB, Mistral, 100+ have all done them. They rarely look bad IMO, except for the ones you sometimes see on Maxi/Allegro.

They are just down right boring. However as with all wheels they still look good when you get them in a decent offsett.
Superlights normaly look good because people put 7/8" wide ones on. Compo ML's are ok but people put them on cars that look better with 13"s and don't use enough width!!!!!
Offset and width in relation to diameter are the only things which attulay matter when it comes to wheels. Otherwise you just get bonus points for choosing and interesting design. minilights and their clones give you a big fat 0 on that side of things imo.

They never looked so right! Ooof! indeed - wide mini/superlites are the foundation upon which the Saaaf London look is based ;D That MK1 Cortina is lush - the alternative Lotus scheme works so well.
