They can't all be saved.
Howver a mate of mine and I were talking about old Vauxhalls and we commented that stuff we were trying to restore now was in worse condition than the stuff we let the bangers have or we broke up for parts a few years ago!
That Toyota looks nice. The nice ones should be saved, the ropey ones broken.
Me and a chum both admitted we did the wrong thing years ago trying to save ropey cars when there were still good ones about (Victors) we should have bagged the good ones and broken the ropey ones. The ropey ones ened up dying anyway and the good ones ended up with unsympathic owners and became ropey. Its drawing the line. Pick the right cars to save. With the rarity of some cars now your selection for your project could alter the survival rate of the whole breed!

....and yeah, I know all too well what you mean about good cars "saved" and ending up rotting away. Seen that happen too many times. I'll show you a horrorshow pic later when I get my camera downloaded...

Last year some time I'm sure there was a thread on here about or mentioned a late 70's Opel Rekord that was on the bay for sale with an obvious banger racer being the highest bidder. Id never seen many rekords but it looked brilliant and i felt so sad to see it lie such fate. So what did i do? I sent a one liner message to the seller saying something along the lines of please don't give it to the bangers!.... A few days later i have a fairly long email saying that becasue of me he'd taken it off the bay, was now keeping the car and is going to restore it. Result! I then explained to him about this forum (and i was merely a lurker then too ) and he then joined up explaining what had happened. I havent heard from him in ages though and not sure if he posted much which would make this a good time to ask the chap how the car is doing. I cant remember his user name though but i still have the old emails he sent me i think. So there you go, I felt really chuffed that i helped save a great retro form the tracks! If you do find out his username, let me know...I sold him a front wing for that Rekord last year and he still hasn't picked it up

To paraphrase... First they came for the Granada Mk2 and I did not speak out because I was not a Ford fan. Then they came for the CROWNs and I did not speak out because I was not a J-Addict. Then they came for the Vauxhall and I did not speak out because I was not an Opel fruit. Then they came for my cars and there was no one left to speak out for me.

The last (and first) time we went to Belle Vue racing night it was great entertainment. don't remember owt too rare. Highlight was the reliants going round to 'Only fools and horses' theme tune. end of seson meant them doing roll overs on purpose etc. not much glass left on some! not many of them left now. It sad to think thats a bunch of decent cars are getting trashed, better than em being scapped and crushed for a minor MOT fail though. If its all above board and done with a bit of a concience its probably ok IMO

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

I was speaking to some oval racers the other night, they seemed rather knowledgable and also said something about Cressidas being banned on some tracks. I wished I'd asked more now.

Datsuns with the OHC L-eries 4/6cyl engine aren't favoured nowadays for 'normal' races - the distributor is right at the front and tends to snap off, and dizzy guards have been banned at most tracks.
