This is a little itch ive wanted to scratch for a while, rebuilding a bike to something more minimalist.
its a Raleigh from 1970 going on the serial number, i know not of what model but being from 1970 and the olympic ring decals i assume it has something to do with the olympics.
this is it monday last week when i got it fresh out of the back of the car, rear wheel was absent for this pic.
looks nice, has a brooks saddle but it is hella rusty. first thing was to take everything off and shuv it in a box. everything came off and the rear rack is on the way to polojoe for his project on here. break eggs to make omelets an all that
the plan is to make it vintage rat look type thing what with all the patina. so the rusty frame is staying. rusty chrome going.
from rust...
...to less rust
and before and after, the rear wheel at the back all cleaned up and the front up next for 45 mins of wire wool intimacy
so everything potentially shiney was more or less made shiney, then came the grotty hubs. ive got fat fingers for a skinny person and couldnt get to them (and couldnt be bothered with trying to)
so made this, a la bleu peter.
wire and string
tie together
make hooks and bend
attach to hub
and eventually it will clean it. will polish up really nice but takes a while. i do this with all my bikes to keep the hub clean, usually just a cable tie but this looks more inkeeping.
and this is the stage I'm at now a week later, just waiting on a couple of bits but its 95% done!
everythings been cleaned and new grease for the bearings, bars have been flipped etc. hoping to be finished by the weekend fingers crossed!
