I am after a new set of dampers for my Monza. The only available ones are GAZ, AVO or Spax. Anyone got any recommendations or would advise against one of these. Gaz are slightly cheaper but that isnt really an issue, and they would all be made to order as they aint off the shelf. I am interested in GAZ as they are the only one that are adjustable for bump and rebound, but bstardchild got messed around with them quite a bit when he was after some for his Monza. Thanks in advance

General consensus from our club is to avoid Spax.
Gaz, got some on one of our cars, look great, really seem to be well built.
AVOs are the dogs danglies.
Or Leda, if you've got 1200 quid each end to spend ;D

A lot of people have had them: - Start leaking after less than 500 miles - Adjusters seize up very easily (I suppose this isn't much of a problem if you just set it and leave it forever, or play with it now and then) - Suffered useless customer service - Rust rapidly But it's one of those things, I guess luck 'o the draw and all that. I've avoided them because of it though

I've got AVO's on a starlet that's been sat outside for the last 18 months & the adjusters still move fine, can't really comment on how they perform otherwise, as I've never driven the car more than in & out the workshop! :S

I had spax's on my old 131 sport and they were absolutley fine.
Koni always work well but I agree, if you suffer from bulging wallet syndrome then head directly to Leda, do not pass go, do not collect £200.

I've had good results with Spax and Avo. Never tried the Gaz units, but they are highly regarded among Mini owners.
*Edit* I would think Bilsteins would be available for the Monza. I had these on my old Manta. They were fantastic! They were non-adjustable IIRC, but frankly, they were perfectly valved anyway. Verdict; Highly recommended. I'm currently running Leda coilovers on the Ascona. I haven't put enough miles on them to form an opinion yet, but they look to be of VERY high quality, and they are built to order so they can be valved to suit your exact requirements.

Bilstein`s and Konis are no longer listed for monza`s otherwise I would probably have gone for Bilsteins anyway. I have a pair of Koni red adjustables that I bought from ebay, but decided against using them as they are only adjuatable for rebound and not for bump. And the valving for bump feels exactly the same as standard which is apparently how the reds are set up.
Gaz are saying 2-3 weeks for delivery and adjustable for bump and rebound.
AVO 4-6 weeks and adjustable for bump on the fronts with the rebound fixed, and the rears are adjustable for both but at the same time.
Spax is 10 days (at least they were for Bstardchild anyway) and I beleive are just adjustable for bump.
Leda`s are out of my price range unfortunately.
I had thought about converting to coil overs but I don't really want to take it too far away from a standard Monza as at the moment the standard ride quality and handling is really good on road.

GAZ by a milllion miles, they are best in all respects relly (cept leada maybe, but they are normaly a hell of alot more expencive and i don't relly see what they have to justify the extra money)
Had loads of sets of GAZ dampers for Minis, Fiesta coilovers anglia/cortina coilovers. All faultless (and they were the cheapest option!!!!)
