Ok I've got hold of some elec window mech's and the door looms but don't have the looms going to the fuse box.
Can I just run a live and earth to the looms in the doors for them to work or do I need to do anthing else?

Definately put a fuse in. Just get an in-line fuse holder which are available at halfords etc etc, or if u cant find 1 then just get two insulated spade terminals, cut the power feed along the line some where and put the terminals on each end of the wire. You can now just put the terminals onto the blades of the fuse. You should also use the proper relays. If you wire it up straight from the switch to the motor you are putting the full electrical load on the switch which will eventually pack its bags and leave home in a puff of smoke. Either source the proper ones off the donour car or if you get stuck you could just use 4 pin relays which are as common as muck but it would be a messy install as you would need 4 of them and extra wiring. If this 4 relay route ends up being the 1 you take and u get stuck then just e-mail me the mire colours u have there and ill draw you a diagram to show where to put every thing. Not all manufactures did fit relays for leccy windows, especially earlier cars but i would reccomend using them, even if just for the sake of you switches.

Good advice. I have a bunch of salvaged electric windows systems for my Sierra, some of it will go straight in thankfully, but, everytime i look at wires, i realise how rusty i am with it all! its further down the list of jobs ATM, but that should help some, cheers.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts
