As mentioned on here. I have a car thats had SORN applied for but no acknowledgement has been made by the DVLA to say it is and their website says I could be fined (after tapping in reg).
What is the implications of advertising it with SORN undeclared? It is obviously my problem, not the person I'm selling it to. With that in mind am I okay to proceed with a sale?

Dunno if it helps, but you can SORN a car online. I bought a Golf recently for scrap, the log book didnt turn up after a couple of weeks so I looked into it online... didnt want to get fined for a car that cost £5.50! I SORNed it online and printed off the email verification. ;D

the new keeper has to declare it SORN again anyway.

Because the keeper before me didn't declare it, it hasn't been done since '98 and when applying online it says something about a fine, so I didn't proceed...

Just declare sorn form the date you took ownership. I have a sieve like memory and have never had any problems/fines doing it this way.
As pointed out above, Sorn is not transferrable it is the responsiblity of the current keeper - what the old one did is not your concern, and the new one needs to re-declare it from the date he puts on the V5

cars off the road before '98 don't need SORN. My Ventora was last taxed in '97, I never SORNed it and I've never had a fine. Same with the Capri, off the road since '91 there! I think they probably think its long since scrapped...

I'm getting worried about the MR2 now, they never sent a sorn thing to me, and the other chap had it sorned. yet for the past few months i should of sorned it really! I plan to tax it soon, thats if i get it MOT'd! would it just be forgotten if i taxed in June, or should i 'fess up ASAP via their site. Arrggh.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

I think they probably think its long since scrapped... ...but a change of ownership will require a non-taxed car to be SORNed even if it wasn't on the road previously. I bought a Triumph that hadn't been on the road since the 80s and got stung after I put it in my name but didn't apply for SORN.

Sh@, that means i'm in double trouble, the 3 door hasn't hit the road since 91 but i popped my name on it, i'm sure that ones exempt, cos the DVLA site check didnt mention SORN, whereas the MR2 did

Dvla are really shoddy at sending out SORN confirmations, I even rang when I SORNed my mini and they promised to send one out and lo and behold a few days later I received.... aanother copy of my V5....erm thanks DVLA. Ring if in doubt but if you've definitly sent it off you'll be fine, it does say that it can take a few weeks to receive the letter I think.
