I think I'm going to remove the rear swage line (rear arches back) on the scirocco to try and even things up a bit after spraying the sides black.
The question is: Is it likely that the paint work will remain ok when I take it off? I've heard that the paint can sometimes come off with the strip - if this is the case I'll leave it in place.

Are we talking about a plastic trim strip or a defined groove in the metal work - the latter is what I would define 'swage line'... If it's placca trim, how is it fixed on? with tags or glue? Either which way it shoudn't be too hard to get off or damage the paint if you are careful.

swage line is usually stamped into the metal panel.

It's just the rubber strip I'm on about......I pressume it's just stuck on, as I've seen other Scirocco's with it removed - I suppose the best thing to do is try it! Cheers

Never done it myself but general opinion is they usually come off pretty easily. Don't throw them away though (can't get them new, and nobody seems to save them off scrap cars...)

Its a rubbing strip, Dear Boy, a rubbing strip. Swage lines are creases in the metal, usually to give strength to otherwise large(read flimsy) panels.
