My Escorts been on a serious diet over the past few years, with all manner of weight saving strategies deployed such as drilling out stuff, perspex windows, lightweight fuel cell, no heater etc etc, all in the persuit of performance. I'd really like to find out how much it weighs now, but how do I go about it? I know there are weigh bridges, but whats the crack with those? Pretty sure your average hairy arsed trucker isnt going to want to entertain some chump in a car rolling up? Where could I get an accurate figure from? Cheers

my dads workplace has a weigh station. i shall be using that to find out how much the buggy actually weighs soon.
best bet is to ask people if they know anyone that works somewhere with a weigh station. I'm sure they wont mind you using it since it only takes a few seconds and its not like they're in use non stop

Ah cool, i'll take a look. They shouldnt mind should they? Its not as if i'm asking them to do owt. Corner weights would be even better, then I could see how well balanced it is too (not that 50/50 balance was on my mind while I was hacking out heater matrixes and seat subframes). Suppose thats a specialist racing outfit job is it?

As mentioned before, I've always gone down the local tip and bunged the guy a fiver to weigh whatever I was on/in. Guys at the tip are always on the make.

Was thinking about this the other day, are the official weights supplied by the cars manufacturer without any fuel on board?

This is something thats coming back to the attention of a lot of car journos- Evo did i abit about it the other month, dry weights, kerb weights, half laden.... much ambiguity.

Nissan SA were kind enough to take the guess work out of establishing the weight of my Sunny truck by providing a large sticker on the side of it ;D I usually go down the nearest scrap metal merchant to get my cars wieghed if I need too. Sometimes they'll do it for free if they're in a good mood -Ed

Public weighbridge
£7.50 for a double weigh (ie before and after)
They give you a print out of the weight before and a ticket for when you've unloaded to get you empty weight - still got mine and I must go and do the return visit - it's only been 6 mths!!!!
