Saw this today, semi-regular sighting in Attleborough over the last few months. However, first time I've seen it sitting like this.... I'm guessing they came with air suspension as standard, but surprised me it made it down to 350 model, I'd have thought only V8's. Do they always sit that low when parked? They worth much? Bits expensive? Whatever, nice to see it in regular use.

oh my, ive come over all funny. w116. 350 is a v8. they do have air sus, but they're don't usually sit like that. I'm guessing its been tampered with. value depends on what condition its in. ive seen snotters go for 1.5k, and minters up into thousands. that is a very fine example. cool spot.

Thanks! Didn't realise they did V8 that small.
I thought it was good to see without the blingy nonsense arch trims and original hub caps.

Very nice. I thought they had regular coil-spring suspension set-ups on those? The 280 I had a tool around with in the scrappers some time ago had regular coils... Either way, the suspension's definitely been modded. You can pick up real ropey snotters for a few hundred quid if you look hard enough. Then there's the 6.9 version.... automotive sex.

Salvage yard I go to has a 6.9 in. Its not for sale yet though

I'd be interested to know what price its up for when available if you're not bagsied it. I nearly bought one of a Mercedes specialist in Notts a few years ago, ain a deep blood red metallic. I went back to do the deal and the place was all empty and boarded up. closed down.

Theres a 1979 450SEL in Classics this month with only 13k from new, first owner only kept it 2 months, saw a ratty yellow 280 SE at a show over here, it'd been fitted with a diesel engine.

Doesn't the 6.9 have Citroen hydraulic suspension? Very similar, but not Citroen-licenced (like Rolls-Royces have). Actually the suspension of the 450SEL 6.9 is safer than Citroen's version, because if something goes wrong, there is a rubber part in the struts that functions as a temporary spring (in Citroens, if the hydraulic system loses its pressure the car has no brakes, steering or suspension).
