I must admit the drive besides my house got a bit chocka about 6 months back - mainly cos I was extending the garage to allow me to work on a car or two in the dry.....
On the drive were
- 3 x Senator 24V's - 1 x Monza GSE - 1 x Carlton Estate (actually this one was in the back garden) - 1 x Carlton 2.0 GLi - 1 x Lotus Carlton
And I had to park the Polo in the road......
Now I decided even for me this was a bit of a Joke - Gave the CDX Carlton Est and 1 x Senator 24V to good homes and it freed up a bit of space and lent the Carlton to a mate with both money and car problems (got it off my drive and helped him out)
That left
- 2 x Senator 24V's (one being broken for parts) - 1 x Monza GSE - 1 x Lotus Carlton - 1 x VW Polo
My neighbour on the left is good as gold and as I have never moaned about his 4king Caravan parked on his drive he never moans about the cars on mine
But my neighbour on the right is a complete tosser and I know he objected to my Garage extension despite the fact that it's nowhere near his property and he caused a stipulation to be put on the planning consent to stop me working on cars for payment - that so made me laugh as I help other people out for fun provided my projects don't need attention.
Anyway those outside while I work on the Monza again are all washed and most are covered with tailor car covers and I don't work on them outside after dark (gets close sometimes) but he always has a b!tch or moan about them to the other half - this normally succeeds in getting her back up and she'll let me buy another ;-)
Most of the other neighbours don't talk to me just make comments to other neighbours but they can all go to hell if they don't want to ask me a question directly. If they asked what I was doing with the cars I could tell them the garage is once again taken over by Monza engine and car - everything else has to come out for the duration of the repair
LC and Senny go back inside once Monza is running again Monza and Polo live on drive and the "new" White Senny will be stripped to a carcass on a spanner party weekend (TBA) and be picked up by the scrap metal dealer on the Monday after.

but yeh cappumochinimo cruiser, don't blame you for wanting to just exist in peace and do your thing There was a time I'd have fought it, but recent events have given me a much more mellow outlook on things, I don't have the energy for the curse word I get anymore, besides, they've not won I'll be making the van as loud as I can now just to curse word them off ;D

I think its just that anyone who has too much time on their hands starts to get cross about slightly annoying but wholly insignificant circumstances. When left to fester these concerns take over and it becomes that person's sole desire to let every neighbour, local rag and council office know just what they plan to do. We have heard from friends working for the council that if someone complains persistantly, then the council will investigate just to get the whinger off their back! They then have to take some sort of action just to appease the neighbourhood net twitcher.
A mate had submitted plans to the council for his new garage and some new neighbours moved in, only to complain about said plans the first week they were living there!! Have you got nothing better to do?? The garage had been started and he had to change the design. He made no counter claim about the neighbour's fat kids and hideous wife that were certainly more of an eyesore!!

Oh, heres another trick: Some guy in Coventry (I think) got a notice to dispose of about 6 or 8 classics he had on his drive. The reason was a planning non-conpliance. A driveway is defined under planning law as an area for driving vehicles over. NOT a storage area. You are not technically permitted to "store" vehicles on your drive (or garden). However, if you ammend your driveway or surrounding area (wall, border, whatever) send in a scale plan to the planning authority showing your driveway marked as "vehicle hard standing area / driveway" and a covering letter saying "please confirm that the ammendments to my property do not require planning concent" and keep the letter which comes back safe. Thats what I've done with mine both times. They probably won't notice the driveway/standing bit as they are looking at the wall or what ever it is you are proposing as a modification. Make sure you check that what ever you are proposing does not require planning though! Now you are covered as you have a vehicle standing area and you can leave cars on it as long as you like so long as you don;t breach any environmental or other laws. Top tip..... Hmmm that tiny low wall I've always fancied building just to create a physical boundry to the property looks very attractive now might just have to send the council a note just to make sure it's all OK

You're bang on tarka, it IS neighbours with nothing better to do, but as I said, I can see their point. I've been harping on at the old man for ages now about removing at least some of the vehicles, so far he's done squat. I'm doing my bit anyway, as I said it's the fact they didn't come to me 1st that annoys. It's not hard, I'm hardly a 6'8" monster, and I'd have been more than reasonable. I'm more dismayed at the lack of communication

as I recall a wall less than 3' tall does not need planning permission. Theres a website which explains it all, its a year since I was doing planning aplication so I can't recall what it is. Your local council website planning department will doubtless link to it though.
Yeah, at least my old neigbours came over to complain rather than heading for the council.

At least your neighbours have something to complain about, as petty and small-minded as it may be. When I came back to uni after Easter we had letters from the letting agent saying we were being fined £50 for breaching the terms of our contract and causing a nuisance to our neighbours, as well as letters from the university stating that they had received complaints about us and a note of that would be placed on our permanent records. The reason? Apparently, we had a party that went on late into the night. And when was this party supposed to have taken place? Easter weekend, when the house was empty. Right.
Just to make you jealous - our car back home has 7 cars (one of which is an ongoing project) and a bike. Neighbours on one side - 5 cars (one project) and two vans. Other side - 8 cars (3 projects and a 200mph Allard drag racer) and 2 vans. And we got invited to their annual tournament a few weeks ago - last year it was electric wheelchair racing round their garden, this year they'd set up a Carina with reverse steering and quickest round the course they'd marked in cones in their garden won...

Been doing me some research, does not bode well , basicly if they decide the property is being used for vehicle repairs, I'm screwed, so I've worked this plan of action...... Well the Golf will be with friends till this blows over, the Seat is also going the same route, and Drew will sell his 2.2 legacy once he's got the seat running right again. The saab is moving to a space occupied by a scorpio once we've pillaged it. Vento is as good as gone apparently. Beford Midi WILL go one way or another. My Bug and Audi are being moved to my barn, long term by the looks of things, I'll prob keep this arrangment up for the long term and just chop and change vehicles as the mood takes. My legacy is no longer part of the equation, as thats gone. At the house, once we are done, there will be the following. 1 Subaru (my brothers daily) 1 Jag XJS, my fathers, bit projecty really, needs welding and some mechanicals (we're clearing the garage on the property with this in mind, so driveway is "short term") There's a scrap Wolsey Hornet in the garage, that's being scrapped once the drive is clear (no nothing salvagable before you ask) 1 VW Caravelle (my daily) For a family of three drivers, with an interest in cars, is this unreasonable? I'll propose that all work carried out in future is out of sight of the neighbours, that should stop them having any cause for complaint..... we've some rather high gates on the property that they can't see anything behind once they are closed I just hope this is the end of it Will keep you posted

Seriously farked. The logbook comes with the car , it's a 1962 model I think

Beford Midi WILL go one way or another. I just hope this is the end of it I'll confirm if I can grab the van very shortly. Don't mean to be an ass messinng about over something for free... Just want to be 100% before I say I'll do anything so as not to let folks down. Hope your right and it is the end of it. Its a downer when the neighbours are at you, especially when they don't have the balls to say anything to your face.

Thats cool fella, I'm looking at getting the seats out and ready for you to collect tonight if I can get a chance to. Problem isn't the van being collected, its the curse word in it the van which I've gotta get out, the documents I need to chase (my dad has gone awol, typical!!!), and making sure the bloody thing will move before you come on a train to collect it At the moment, the van is behind the gates, and I can't get to it to unload, at least till I've shifted some of the curse word out the way. It's like steptoes yard but with houses round it . I CAN see their point, I just wish I had more time to do things....

Aye to be fair it does sounds like you have plenty of tat lying about!!! that's never been my argument, my argument has always been that they should have approached me. The situation was actually being addressed, by myself, my father and my brother, but no one bothered to ask, so now we are forced to hurry things along.

Some people are defintaley saddos, i cant see why a neighbour could get upset at you having vehicles stored on your property, i mean the council wouldnt be interested if you were to write to them complaining about someone having one too many garden gnomes which is far worse an eye sore than a few cars. (Sorry to any garden gnomes lovers)

OK OK! yeah they should have approached you in the first place I agree. Bit cowardly. If you yourself agree that there is realistically too much stuff lying around however, you can't really spit too many feathers if someone complains, whether its to you, or the council, or Uncle Tom Cobley etc. Fair play to you for cracking on and having a thorough round-up like, sounds like you should liberate some space fairly rapidly.
