With its first outing at manby showground at lincolnshire in july getting closer,mi mates other half has given the go ahead to raid their savings account to get it finished in time. We've been toying with the idea of putting a local lads proven 1400 K series motor in it which came out of another escort but time is too short for that at the moment so we're sticking with the old trusty for the time being. Next job is to get it on the rolling road and set the carbs up as it's running rich as hell cos they came off a 2 litre saab, but a new electronic ignition's going on it first. Until now,we've being doing the jobs that av'nt cost owt, like the strut brace and breather tank and getting the eyebolts fitted and strenghthening plates welded on underneath for the harnesses, then repainting the inside again after we burnt yet more paint off. A nice local rally boy donated a free helmet net,so that got fitted today as well as the intercom and the mudflaps. The latest shopping list includes a much needed slippy diff,a quafe 4 speed box and clutch to suit,a decent set of tyres(proberbly dunlops),signwriting sorting out for it and numerous other bits that i've forgotten about. Latest pics from today :- Was well pleased with how the brake bias control turned out in the drivers air vent.

Eventually,he wants to use it mainly for forest events but first he'll be doing some single venues to get used to it. He's navigated a few times for different people but when it comes to driving, the L plates'll be going on! ;D ;D Thats one of the reasons we're sticking with the crossflow. We recon starting off steady and building up speed with faster motors later on is the way to go for now.
His main aim is to take it up to mull one day,but he's booked in for servicing duties up there for another rally nut in a nova,so it'll be a year or two before it gets there.

Hell, I 'd want to get a bit of experience under my belt before attempting Mull aswell! Seen a lot of good drivers made to look like amateurs there!

Got a bit nearer with the old beasty in the last few weekends. We're well impressed with the difference the electronic ignition's made.Runs miles better now,so we thought it was time to take it to the rolling road and get it set up properly at the boggy bros at york. For a standard ish engine,mi mate wasnt expecting a great deal from it but with some minor mods by mr bogg it was pushing 105 ponies at the wheels which we all thought was pretty good. Today has been 'stickering up' day.The number backgrounds were a pain up the to put on with out getting bubbles and creases in em.The navigators side's coming back off cos it's curse word. All the other ones went on ok though and helped brake up the plant pot colour a bit. Our local fibreglass friend made us some flat sheets up for the door cards,so we trimmed them down and got them riveted on too. The front spoiler's getting painted at the same time as the new fibreglass bonnet when it eventually turns up. Next job is the mot and then it's off to get logbooked by the local chief scrutineer.

I'll see him there then!! I'm at Mull pretty much every year! Yep, best to start simple and build up, no point in having all gear but no idea!!

very tasty. 2 things I'm intrigued about tho...... box where the fusebox usually resides? what is it? and why plate the heater bowl hole? surely itll fill with water. very tasty car tho, credit to whoever built it I made a breather box to cover up the hole where the fuse box used to be.Didnt want any curse word coke bottles on this baby! ;D ;D As far as i know, all the holes in the bulkhead have to be blocked off to comply with the rules in the blue book. Will be for the same reason the boot has to be firewalled i suppose. If it fills with water we'll have to drill the rivets out and put the plate back on. There's been about 5 of us attacking it over the years.I've done most of the metalwork, the owners the mechanic and 2 fibreglass lads have put a lot of effort in to it as well. Someone else painted it but it was done that long since,i've forgotten who did it!! For the best part of 6 years,it's been a handy shelf and storage unit. ;D ;D Just hope i can get my 131 looking as good when it's finished.
